engagment picture advice

I didn't want put this in the wedding section since it is more about general fashion.
My fiance and I are having our engagment picutres done on Sunday. I am at a loss as to what to wear. We will be in an outdoor location. Should we be casual or semi-formal? Any specific outfit suggestions for me? Thanks girls!

When we got our picture taken it was early December, indoors. We decided to be casual and both wore jeans and a sweater. I think it really all depends on what kind of picture you want. I find that formal dress makes the picture look too posed, but if that is the look you are going for, definitely dress up a bit. HTH!

My friends recently had their engagement pictures taken around the memorials in DC.  I went shopping with my girlfriend for outfits, and she said the photographer recommended solid colors, nothing too trendy to make the pictures look dated, and preferrably a white top, because it will reflect light on your face.

They went casual, because that's their style - he wore a navy polo and khaki pants, she wore a simple white cotton halter with a pale blue skirt.  For some of the head-only shots, she changed into a pale blue crewneck sweater because her eyes are blue.

great ideas girls! I think we will go more casual, which is our style. I also think a white top would be great. If you have any in mind, post away!

Def dont go trendy.. and I agree with wearing solid colors. Try to be as classic as possible, so you don't end up hating the pics later.

I would also wear simple styles.. I wont even wear a collared shirt if I know I'm getting my picture taken, just in case the collar doesnt lay right or it stands up on one side. I don't always trust people to fix something like this for me!

I agree with other posters who said don't go trendy or printed, but you still want something with personality. Depending on your skintone, I wouldn't go with white, either, it may wash you out.  If you have warmer tones in your skin and want to go the white route, I would wear ivory instead.  Maybe you could just wear a simple shirt that picks up the color or your hair or eyes. Here are some ideas:

Here are some sweaters, if you want to go that route:

Oh and, I think it looks best when couples coordinate their clothing.  There is nothing worse than seeing clashing colors or styles in photos.

My fiance and I were a little dressy. I wore a pink solid dress and he wore a polo, khaki's and a navy blazer.

I wish now that we had worn something white, him a polo and me a white top and khaki bottoms for a beach picture. I love the idea of jeans and a sweater too.

oh! i am so glad you posted this doveanunu!  we are getting ours done in Oct. and I am not sure what to wear either.  i think we are going the sweater route since it will be outside in the leaves... and we are sticking to sold colors as well.  i think NylaBelle had some great suggestions for you.
