Can this be tailored?
Permalink Closed

Most of you ladies are probably more experienced than I am with getting things tailored....do you think this skirt could be shortened? If so, will it cost me a fortune?

The skirt is 24.5" long, and I'd like it to be 21 or 22"....

Thanks!

i thnk it's tricky. i would have to see the skirt. since it's two layers it's not only double the work, but if the hem of the lace part needs to be brought up then the skirt is going to have to be reconstructed from the waist area. it may end up being rather expensive to alter. if you love the skirt and want it to be perfect, i would say be prepared to pay over $60-75 for alterations. also if there is an invisible zipper... that is just going to add to the costs.

It depends on the zipper and on how you want it to look. They might be able to take it up from the top instead of the bottom, which would be a little easier- but then the ruffly part would start higher up on your leg.

According to the description, there is a "hidden side zipper" -- now I am thinking that taking it up from the top OR the bottom will be expensive. *sigh*

hidden side zipper probably means invisible zipper which usually cost more with alterations. take it to a tailor and have them give you an estimate! if it's not worth it, you can always return it!

Good idea, Dot -- thanks! That's what I'll do!
