What the heck is "Smart as you are" dress code? What do I wear?
Permalink Closed

Hi All,

I've been invited to a business dinner in Dubai, and the dress code says "Smart as you are".  What the heck is that supposed to be?  Any suggestions on what to wear?  The dinner party will be at someone's house in Dubai.  If the industry matters, this will be for commodities trading, and generally the traders in the industry dress to impress - not neccessarily fancy, but stylish, and they love labels.  The suppliers, on the other hand, usually show up in jeans or khakis with sports coats.

I'm at a loss!

I would dress how you expect the traders to dress - stylish and not in jeans. I think the dress code is trying to say "dress smart" (even though that's not necessarily the clearest dress code either....)

Second this.  Maybe a wrap dress and nice heels.  I'd do one outstanding thing, like wear a piece of statement jewelry or interesting shoes.

I like the idea of the statement jewelry!

Anyone seen any short sleeve wrap dresses lately?

I'd interpret this as "business trendy" - killer heels, chic pants (not jeans), cute top, cardigan or stylish jacket, good accessories.

Thank you Boots! I love that DVF! I tried tracking down the wrap dress from Banana in my store, but it's not on the floor yet. lick.gif

Thank you to everyone for your input! You've given me some great ideas.

Haha I actually had to giggle about your cluelessnes of the theme.
