I just started my new job and I seriously lack in the top department. I am about to start wearing the same stuff for the 2nd and 3rd time! I have the pants and skirts down pretty well. I need some suggestions for tops - prefer knit-type tops with three quarter to long sleeves. Business Casual- I'm an auditor so I have to look nice and neat for client meetings. Preferably no more than $50.
I have pants in: brown, khaki, tan, black, khaki pinstripe, pink. Skirts in: red, green, brown, black
I also could use some affordable brown pumps that will not cause major blisters. I bought some over the summer and wore them yesterday for the 2nd time and my feel are just covered with blisters! It is painful and gross!
this is just a few finds i quickly found. most are really inexpensive so i can't verify the quality.
this nifty little charcoal gray sweater jacket over your slacks with some peppy red shoes and a matt red lip could be great. and for under $30 its a steal
this top in cream over a brown tank and your brown slacks with the great brown shoes someone else posted for you can be work appropriate but still fem and slightly vintage. also wear it over charcoal gray tank and slacks with black heels and cameo necklace. the key with making this top work appropriate is keeping the shell and the pants matching exactly. and for under $20 i'd consider getting it in other colors.
this is a classic tuxedo cut shirt. the cream color and simple lines will let you wear it with any pair of pants you own. try it with plaid pants for an unexpected combo. price $39
fair isle sweaters are a darling addition to any work wardrobe. wear it on casual fridays to play it safe. for $34 you can wear it on the weekends too. *note you should probablly have a sweater shaver gizmo just in case this one pills*
pretty fem and cozy wear this with matching pant and shell to keep it office appropriate. for the low low price of $29
on sale for $19 great wrap cardigan. the color would be unbelivable with choclate brown.
I know these are boring. I know I know. But they were really my work staples. This one is Ann Taylor on sale for $40 but you can find similar at Steinmart very often for about $20 or $25. I had several colors from different places (steinmart, limited, NY & Co) & if you get them with a little stretch in them, they come out of the dryer perfect, so no ironing. You can jazz them up with jewelry & wear different shoes to add interest to your work outfits.
Editted to add: Steinmart quite often had great things for work, not expensive. Not really my "style" maybe, but good staples and so affordable. Of course I worked across the street from Steinmart in BR & went nearly every day at lunch, but that's totally beside the point!

They are Steve Madden "Tronik". I couldn't find them on the bloomies website.....here is the zappos link, but they are twice as much as I paid http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/5265699/c/216.html I am pretty sure they are last year's, so maybe you can find them on the sale racks....
Thanks for the help. I'm going to start looking around for them. Maybe they will go on sale at Zappos or ebay.
Thanks for the suggestions girls. I have a ton of button ups but I like some of the new colors that are out so I may have to hit the mall.
May I suggest Banana Republic. I work in a pretty conservative (dress wise) law firm so I have to wear pretty "boring" clothes and I always have great luck at BR for work clothes that fit the bill. BR has relatively fun work clothes and you can usually find some good sales. Anytime I feel bored with my work wardrobe I make a trip to BR and I almost always find something to spice things up (relatively speaking).

I live at BR and Gap outlet right now. I need to make another trip out to them and check out the regular store. Most the time I don't really think they are boring but I do miss my student clothes.

Sorry, I was a little unclear, I don't think overall BR clothes are boring, it's just for work I have to buy more conservative pieces, which sometimes are a little boring, but that's why I like BR, because even their most conservative pieces have a fun twist.
