I got a prescription for Yasmin from my gyno but was wondering if anyone on here had any experiences or comments?

I was on Yasmin for about a year before switching to Ortho Tri Cyclen. I really liked Yasmin, my periods were regular, I was never in pain from cramps, and the only unfortunate side effect was moderate PMS in the 3rd week. But it wasn't anything serious amounts of chocolate and Starbucks couldn't cure.

I've been on it for 3 years now. I like it a lot and haven't had any bad experiences....only good things like lighter periods, less cramps and it controls my hormones so my migraines are a little more tolerable.

Lilykind, if you don't mind me asking....how was going from a monophasic pill to a triphasic one?  I am considering going from the opposite...OTC to monophasic, like Yasmin, and I was wondering if you noticed any difference.

I actually had about a year between the switch when I wasn't taking anything at all, so I honestly don't know. I'm sorry.

Tara I switched from tri to mono but it was like a year ago also.  I don't remember having any side affects from it.  I know I did like being able to skip periods on the mono pill.

I like it - made the switch from ortho evra which was making me a stark raving b*tch. So far so good. Also taking it 3 months in a row to reduce migraine headaches and that is working too.

My experience was like Mara's...the pill was fine, but I was a raving bitch around my period, which has never happened before (or since), so I switched back to ortho. I really didn't like the major hormonal mood swings with Yasmin.

I'm a complete idiot here. What's the difference between a mono and tri type of BC?

I didn't find that it made a diff. with my skin. The only thing that has done that was Ortho Tri.

What's the difference between a mono and tri type of BC

Triphasic pills change the level of progestin and estrogen in your body because there are different dosages each week of the pill pack. Monophasics keep the levels the same throughout the month.

The idea with triphasic pills is that they will more closely match the normal hormone cycle (if you weren't on the pill) and these pills reduce the amount of hormone dosage you ingest.

Monophasics, because the hormone levels don't change, are considered less likely to cause side effects (like mood swings).

Well, this might be TMI, but......here goes.....lately I have noticed a significant drop in my libido.  I read a study that women on monophasic pills tend to have an increase in libido compared to women on triphasic pills (however, keep in mind this was only ONE study).  This is why I was considering the switch.  However, the side effects to both monophasic/triphasic pills are very patient specific.  For example, some women lose weight while others gain weight, etc.  Since I have only ever taken triphasic pills, I just was considering the switch.

Ehhhhh...not really. Any changes were barely noticeable when I was on Yasmin. I noticed more of a change when I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen...by the time I stopped taking it my skin was almost clear. But I had also been using potent topical treatments for nearly 6 months, so it was probably a combination of both.
