Hair product build up?
Permalink Closed

Ok, this is kinda gross...but while I was blowdrying my hair today I noticed there was a patch of hair in the back near the scalp that felt...off.  Kinda greasy..kinda tacky.  (Sorry, this is gross.)  I'm not sure if it's cause I just wasn't careful rinsing out my conditioner or if my hair is getting build up from products.  (Really shouldn't be either cause my water pressure is insane and should rinse everything out and I don't really use too many products.)  Anyways, cut to the point...should I try a different shampoo/conditioner?  Is my shampoo not strong enough?  Conditioner too strong?  Suggestions for super cleansing yet not overdrying shampoos would be great too!!!

Neutrogena makes a shampoo to combat build-up. It is in a box in a squatty bottle. The rest of their products are in pastel taller containers--it's not those. Any ways, I'm not crazy about the smell, but I use it once a week and feel that it helps. I use a leave in conditioner after that (Rusk's smoother, it's orage and creamsicle looking). You can also add some baking soda to your current shampoo to get rid of build up.

Also, those rosemary mint shampoos (Aveda makes one) is supposed to have aniseptic qualities that would help if infact you had an oily scalp or a sweaty one.

Pretty much every brand of shampoo makes something to combat buildup. Right now i use suave and I love it. Also a couple of months ago i had that problem where my scalp was kind of greasy but my ends were dry. It turns out I wasen't using enough shampoo.
