Does anyone know of a good tailor in LA? I need a jacket and pants 3 sizes sized down, a pair of pants cuffed, and a zipper sewed on a skirt. Hence I desperatly need a good tailor that knows what they're doing. Also I've never had anything tailored in the past and am not even sure if jackets w/lining can be sized down that much. Any advice or referalls would be greatly appreciated.
Jodari Tailors in Beverly Hills. They're located at 435 N. Beverly Dr. (310.274.3988). I usually talk to Carlos
They've resized a dress for me from a size 10 to a size 6, and a jacket with lining from an 8 to a 6. Also they've hemmed a million pairs of pants for me. The only thing is that I've heard that you can't size anything down more than 2 sizes because it will affect the shape of the garment too much. But it's worth a try! Good luck!
try fortunato tailor on pico and patricia on the west side. here's the number: (310)839-9218. the only thing is fortunato is sick, he is in the hospital! but julio should be able to help you. hth!
ooh, i think i'll steal this one!! thanks esq.!! i have a TON of things to get tailored... do they do denim hemming (putting original hem back on)? i'd love a one stop shop... also, how are prices? should i wait for fortunato to get back, or is julio okay too? thanks girl!!
yup, i go there for everything. the prices are very reasonable but i usually go in there w/ a lot of stuff so i don't know what any one alteration costs individually. oh but yeah, he's great at denim and actually hemmed my r&r scorpions and did an amazing job. he's done a whole lot of other more intricate work for me too and it's always been just fabulous. and he's so cool, i've run in there numerous times over a button popping off a suit or whatever and he's always just fixed it right there and then and not charged me a dime. oh and he's given me change for the meter too (therere's parking in the back, i just didn't know that for a while). anyway, he's not shady or sleazy at all and i feel totally comfortable w/ him. the only thing is you usually have to give him a firm deadline or he has a tendency to dawdle.
as for julio, you know i don't think i've ever met him--fortunato is usually at the shop alone, except for his dog (a little black chihuahua named "baby"--so cute). but julio seemed nice over the phone and for all i know he's been helping fortunato out w/ all my stuff but i just can't say for sure. i think i'm going to have to just trust in julio though because i need these pants hemmed as well as my bridesmaid dress and i kinda can't wait. julio said fortunato was going to be in the hospital for a while but that he was ok (still kinda worried though...).
anyway, i'm going in tomorrow so i can ask about exact prices if you want. what do you need done crystal?
oh, well don't trouble yourself too much, hon. what i need is: 2 crotches sewn up, 2 jeans hemmed (orig. hems), and 2 pant legs hemmed (one leg each on 2 pairs of pants - the hem fell out). actually one of the pairs of jeans is my *NEW* R&R Scorpions, so that's good to hear about yours. so i have a burning question i've been meaning to ask....
what exactly is involved in getting pants hemmed? do i need to pin the legs ahead of time w/ where i want the hem to come to? or will they have me try on the pants or something? i've never gotten pants hemmed that weren't already hemmed & needed to be redone. TIA!!

first of all, i am such a loser when it comes to directions--it's on pico and prosser not pico and patricia, and it's on your left hand side if you're traveling west on pico.
anyway, this is what i think you should do about your pants and what i always do--go in there w/ shoes that are the height that you want to wear your pants w/--try the pants on w/ the shoes and he will pin for you. chances are he will ask, is this ok? higher? lower? whatever. because some people like their jeans to graze the ground while others don't. and there is a little changing room in the shop so don't worry about where to change or whatever. hth!
and i'm printing out this email so when i go in there tomorrow i'll make sure to ask about your stuff too. the only thing i don't get is the crotches sewn up part, what do you mean exactly?
omg, am i the only one who has had this problem?? on 2 pairs of pants i squatted & the crotch ripped! it split on the seam so it should be easy to fix. i guess they were too tight at the time, but i've lost a teensy bit of weight & now they fit so i want to fix them so i can wear them! (in one of them i was squatting to stretch them out, didn't really work out for me tho )
i haven't even gone in yet! i'm so sorry, and this morning i remembered that i still hadn't gone in and i can't today because i don't have my bridesmaid dress w/ me, argh! if you go in at lunch today could you post what you think of julio?
