Help me style this J Crew sequin pencil skirt!
Permalink Closed

Hi!  Its been a while!  I've been lurking regularly but haven't posted in a while (can no longer read at work).

I have this jcrew sequin skirt that I hope to wear to a NYE party:

I need help styling it!  I am wearing it to a party where most of the people will be wearing cocktail/fun party dresses.  My boyfriend is wearing a suit with a bowtie : )  I was thinking of either wearing it with a cardigan (longer length) or a white button down.  Here are two pictures with ideas:

Also unsure of shoes...I have these two heels - first is satin printed shoes and the next pair are black patent leather/brown suede.  I also have a pair of brown flat boots.  I have quite a few other shoes options (brown heels, blue suede heels, gold strappy heels, etc) but these are the ones I thought might work best.

Also, do I need a belt?  What about tights?  I'm willing to buy new items to style this.  I just could use some expert opinions from you all!

I love it with the white shirt. I'd wear some high heels and undo another button. It's NYE, you can strut your stuff a little!

I like the second shoes a lot, with the white shirt untucked and a wide belt if that works with it, plus collar-length blingy necklace and your hair up.

My other suggestion is fitted black fine-knit top of some kind, black tights, black heels and funky jewelry - theatrical black so the skirt really stands out.

Or ivory silk or satin tank under a plain ivory shrunken cardigan with the gold heels and gold jewelry. I don't like the above sweater with it, I think it's too "officey."

I think you need something more than just the white shirt (although I like it as an outfit.  But you might need to up the ante if everyone else is in cocktail wear.)  I like Su's idea of ivory & gold with the skirt. It is NYE after all.

I could also see a great blue color going with the skirt. I'd make the neckline interesting to keep it from looking too office-like.

or top it with a delicate cami,  a tux blaze, black tights  and booties.

Ditto this - if BF is in a tux, you need to make the outfit more formal.  I love the idea of satin cami and blazer or even tights and booties with a different top.

You all rock!  Thanks so much for the input.  I'll post the final outfit later.

I found this shirt at AT Loft that is a little bit snugger (and very slightly sheer) that I think I'll wear instead of the blouse in the picture:

I have a fun, blingy necklace.  I was thinking about a belt like this but would it be too much with the skirt?

And if I don't wear a belt like the jcrew one above, I may wear these shoes that I totally forgot I owned (prob a sign I own too many)!

When I started reading your post, I thought of a white blouse. But the one you'
re wearing on the pic is too corporate, so, maybe a more "artist" white blouse ( if you own one, of course). Can be another color blouse - light blue? black? Or cardigan looks lovely. Also - LOVED the shoes with peep toe! Happy new Year!
