what might my bf like in NYC?
Permalink Closed

My boyfriend and I are taking a train into Grand Central to explore and window shop in New York for a day (Tuesday). I figured out where I want to go and, since he's never been before, I had him write down the places he'd like to see. He only wrote down two things: Ground Zero  and Times Square. I have quite a few more places I'm dragging him to (of all the trips I've taken to NY, I've never been able to see stores like Chanel and Manolo Blahnik... if just to walk by), so I feel kind of guilty about it. After reading through old posts about New York, I decided that we're going to get lunch and Peanut Butter and Co... something I know he'll LOVE. But I just feel like I should give him something more out of this trip, you know? I asked him a few times what else he wants to see or where else he wants to go, and he just says, "as long as I get Times Square and WTC, I'm good." I was thinking of taking him somewhere cool as a suprise or something, but I don't know what. Anyone have any suggestions on what a guy would like to see in New York City in September? I'm stumped

Lol... that's such a good idea, thanks! I didn't even think of that.

I just went in June with my best friend and we had fun in there...the rock formations are fascinating, plus there's a very cool exhibit about the history of the world that really puts perspective on how short our time is here in the whole scope of things. Oh, and the dinos are always fun.

Also, the B train gets you from the museum to Peanut Butter and Co. without having to transfer (PB&Co. is a short walk away from the W 4th street stop)

if you are seeing ground zero, take some time to walk around battery park and look at the statue of liberty (from the coast, you don't have to take the ferry to ellis island).  It is very pretty, the financial district is SO nice and the buildings are much taller than midtown (times square).  It is nice to walk around there for an hour or so- so many people will try to sell you fake louis bags in the park though, haha.

Thanks for the tip about the subway, Lilykind! It's perfect because the way I planned it out, we'll be having lunch right after the museum.

I didn't think the Financial District would be anything we might be interested, but since the building are so big and beautiful (but if you think about it, it makes sense), we'll definitely check that out... we're both going to school for and passionate about architecture, so it'll definitely be worth it. Thanks, Lynnie.

We're going tomorrow, I'm so excited!

Thanks for thinking of me, Laken! We had so much fun, but we didn't get to do everything we intended to do. We got into Grand Central at around 11:30 and decided to go to Ground Zero then lunch... it took us a while to figure out how the subway works, lol (whenever I've gone to NY it's been with my mom and aunts, so I just kind of followed their lead), so we changed plans a little. We walked over to Times Square and took a few pictures, then we took the subway to go to lunch at Peanut Butter and Co. It's so cute in there! We both had the Elvis (pb and bananas)... it came with potato chips and carrots, a home-style touch, I thought. It was so small inside; there was Dave Matthews playing in the background and a few college girls hanging out who made conversation with us. Everyone was really friendly there. Then we went down to Ground Zero... I was suprised. I guess I've been under a rock, because I didn't realize they were rebuilding yet. There was so much going on around there, but it seemed so calm and quiet. We just stood there for a few minutes, shocked at how different it is. We were going to go to Battery Park, but I decided to take a detour to Century 21... it was so crowded (plus, I'm on a shopping ban), so we just took a little look around and left. I had forgotten about Battery Park. We took the subway up to Central Park, then walked to the museum. My boyfriend loved it, thanks for the suggestion, Halleybird! We took a little walk through the park. I've never been there before, so we just sat by a tree and hung out for a while. The thing about New York that I love the most is that you can be in one kind of atmosphere, and walk a few blocks and be in a completely different atmosphere. Anyway, when we were walking from Central Park over to 5th Ave (to see some of the stuff I wanted to see) we thought it would be fun to take a peak inside the Plaza... beautiful! We went to Tiffany, then decided to call it a day because we felt nervous being there after dark (since we didn't really know where we were going or anything). We went back to Grand Central and had some pizza in the food court (I guess that's what it is) and bought a few magazines, then took the train back to New Haven. Next time I think we'll concentrate our efforts to one part of the city... I wish we could have done more, but I had so much fun. I loved that we could go where we wanted to go, when we wanted to go... no teachers, and definitely no mom telling me "no there's another Conway a few blocks away..." We're going back in December to see all the store windows for Christmas, the big tree, and Santa in Macy's. I'm already excited!

ETA: Three different people asked me for directions, which I thought was cool... like I actually looked like I belong in New York City. I couldn't help but think about the Gilmore Girls episode where Rory goes to see Jess and that guy asked her for directions at the bus station. I LOVE that city, and I'm jealous of all you girls who get to live there
