OMG!!
Permalink Closed

My roommates just backed out on the apartment with a week before move-in.  I'm going to be homeless in a week. I can't move to my mom's and commute to work with the price of gas being what it is.  And there aren't really jobs where she lives b/c I've looked with any luck.

OMG!! I JUST CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE!!! I'm at my desk crying b/c I'm going to have a breakdown.

Okay first thing you need to do is breathe. You can't think rationally if you are freaked out. Calm down a little, take a quick walk to the bathroom if you need to.

Are there any part time jobs you can get near your mom's while you go back to school? Does you mom work in a position where she can offer you a part time job while you get back on your feet?

You really do just have to breathe first above all else so that you can clear your mind and decide what you are going to do.

I'm not sure. She works in a hospital. Maybe I could do something there??  Or retail part-time. I just got a part-time job here.

I hate to state the obvious - but didn't all of you sign something already? Aren't they legally bound to that?

Gosh, nyla, you have the worst luck ever. You are in my thoughts & prayers - I hope it all works out - let us know if there is something we can do.

I don't know how you feel about fate, but the other day you posted "should I move home" and had no idea what to do. You can look at this way, your decision has been made for you. You weren't sure what to do, and the only thing that seemed to be holding you back, was leaving your new roomates high and dry. Since, they've done this to you, it seems obvious what you should do.

Since you love fashion (I'm assuming since you're on this forum), I think getting a retail job near your mom would be great and it would allow you to go back to school, ultimately being able to get a degree in what you really want.

Sweetie omg I'm so sorry... Is there any way you can get a job near your mom's house and take a bus or a train and commute to work ?  Or like someone said, get a job at the hospital she works at.  There has to be something you can do.

The thing is, if I move with my mom, I will have an hour-plus commute to a part-time retail job and also to school.  The mall where she lives is crap, crap, crap.  I wouldn't want to work in any of the stores there.  And there aren't any schools that offer the program I want.  I would be fine with commuting if I didn't have to pay so much for gas!!!

laken1, yes, I'm going to lose money for this and so will they.  I'm so pissed.

Hahaha!! Trains?? In Bumblef*$@ County?? I wish, but no. I really would do that if I could, but my mom lives in the middle of freaking nowhere!

I live with my bf right now, but he is moving for a job transfer.  I wasn't planning to go with him.  I found these roommates on craigslist and I've also found roommates on roommates.com and I've never, ever had a good experience, so I will not be finding random roommates ever, ever again b/c I've been screwed every single time!

Now I'm beyond upset. I'm pissed as hell.

Okay, this is what you need to do.  Move home.  Get a job working in the hospital where your mom works.  It may be a crappy sceretarial position, but you need to bite the bullet and do something to get back on your feet and I hate to say this, but you may have to be unhappy for a little while longer to be happier in the long run.  Living with your mom will allow you to save money and get the much needed moral support that you need right now.  Hospitals also have great benefits and will most likely have a tuition reimbursement plan so that you can get help paying for school at night.

I understand your commuting problem to school, but I have to commute to Evanston 2 days a week from DT Chicago for the next year and half to make my goal of becoming an RN a reality.  You have to start believing in yourself and making changes or nothing will change for you.  I know that this is hard too.  I moved back into my parents house when I was 23 after being on my own since I was 17 and took a crappy waitressing job to save money to move to Chicago and make a better life for myself and you know what?  I did it and I only had to live there for 9 months.  You can do this girl!

Another thing...I can't work part-time unless it offers health insurance. My back is so messed up and I'm in constant pain from it, so I need something ASAP. My insurance is due to kick in here in a few weeks.  This commute is too far with gas and my crap ass car. I would be spending at least $600 on gas to commute (and how would I save money when my rent wouldn't have even been that high?).

Is this ever going to end or am I just going to keep having one thing after another happen?

i'm so sorry. things will get better. first thing take a deep breath. second contact the girl who backed out. i would be very straight with her and say that since she's backing out with less than a week to go, and you guys have already signed a contract she either needs to find a replacement or reimburse you and the other girl the extra costs you are going to incur. don't sugar coat it, and if necessary threaten legal action via small claims court b/c that is just nonsense.

from reading your other posts i got the sense that you were moving into an apartment complex. is this right? if so can they put you and the remaining roommate in a 2 bedroom apt? also if you absolutely don't want to move back home (though imo you might want to consider it) try taking out an ad in craigslist again. you'll probably have better luck this time around since school is going to start soon. i'm sure there are tons of people still looking for last minute housing.

No, no, both of them back out, behind my back and they are getting a two bedroom together!! That's what makes this even worse.  I refuse to find another roommate on craigslist, I've had way too many bad experiences.

I think I'm just going to move home and deal with gas prices. I don't see any other way at this point. Heh...at least I'll get to hang out with my mom's dog, Lily.

Nyla - You will get through this! Move in with your mom.. As far as jobs and commute, I drive a 45-50 minute commute each way to work. The gas isnt too bad.. Gas is WAY cheaper in Lancaster anyway.

What about Charlotte Russe? They just opened one of them in Park City. There are also some cool boutiques that are open in downtown lancaster.. Boutiques that even sell Sevens and Citizens Jeans.. Now you know that is unheard of!

Besides, we can meet up if you are going to be living close by!! :)

Maybe I'll look at Charlotte Russe...I was actually just hired by Rampage (their sister store).  Maybe I could work both places different days??? I don't know.

Yes, we should meet up!!! That would be fun!

Good God, girl, you just can't catch a break can you?!?!?!  I'm like pissed FOR you!  ARG!  Those stupid little bitches should reimburse you for the money you're going to lose.

I do think that moving back home with your mom was a good idea to begin with and I still think it's your best option.

Don't freak out right now.  It sounds like from some of your posts above that you're panicking a little about this, and understandably so.  Instead of looking at all of the problems you're facing and trying to deal with them all at once, tackle each problem individually.  If you need to, make a list of everything and the options that you have available to you to solve your problem.  If you have to back out of the part time job that you just got in order to get a full time job somewhere else, you might have to do it.

Also, for what it's worth (and I know you probably won't want to do it, but...) Starbucks is almost always hiring and they have stock options and full benefits for part time employees.  I know it wouldn't be top on your list, but if insurance looks like it'll be an issue, then this might help.

I am so sorry things aren't working out like you had planned.  You're going to be one hell of a strong woman after all this is said and done and you'll have one heck of a story to tell your grandkids some day when you're rich and famous (because we sure don't doubt that you will be someday)!
