Where do you work?

I'm sure this has been done before but since I am fairly new on the board, I'll bring it up again. What does everyone do for a living. Not specifically a career, but where do you work?

I'll start.

I'm a recent college grad and took the first job that seemed OK because I was broke. That job being the Administrative Assistant to the VP of a software company. I went to school for graphic design...blech.

i work for the mayor in a small broken-but-rebuilding city in upstate new york.

my title is "special assistant to the mayor," because i got to make up my own title, and damn it, i'm special.

basically, i do press advisories and releases, scheduling, proclamations, answer mail, solve ridiculous problems for residents, answer messages from calls the mayor doesn't want to deal with, and supervise our secretary and senior aide.

I'm an Executive Assistant to a Senior Vice President at JPMorgan Chase (formerly Bank One) in downtown Chicago.  I have also recently started using my writing & communications skills to help out the head of Communications for our department.  Finally I'm doing a little of what I like!

I'm the Research Director for a non-profit, non-partisan political research organization.  I graduated from college in 2003, and took an internship for the first 5 months out of college until I got this job.  I think I'm the only person I know that has a political science degree and does political science.

My job involves tracking campaigns, and a LOT of data and analysis.

Haha, asf, I love your title.  You're genius!

I am a field office secretary for the trucking division of an oil and gas corporation.  I'm pretty sure within the next few years, my title will change to "bookkeeper."  Funny because my worst nightmare is coming true and it's not so bad, ya know.  I do really, really well for not having a degree.

I am a Medical Technologist working in hospital lab.  I am the person who makes sure you get the correct blood when getting a blood transfusion.  I earned a four-year degree that trained me to do exactly what I do.

can I ask which city? I'm from upstate and was highly involved in politics. I did a huge project when I was working in the government involving a ton of upstate mayors...I wonder if I know the one you work for?!

and to answer the question, I studies poli sci as well and am currently working in educational fundraising (sort of related, but not really). I am also finishing up a MA this semester in campaign management with a concentration in political media and strategy.

I'm an administrative assistant/office manager/receptionist for a health insurance company. I went to school for Journalism/PR/Ad. You all know the rest.

Edited to add comments:

asf, your title is fantastic! I love it!

NCShopper, yeah, my bf was Poli Sci and now he's the Chief Commercial Loan Officer for a large affiliate of an even larger financial corporation.  Go figure.

schenectady...where are you from?  i doubt you know my mayor (lol...my) because he's only been in office since 2004, but maybe you worked with the previous one? any dirty little secrets you want to share about upstate politicians?

ncshopper - i have a poli-sci degree and i use it!  more in my "volunteer" activities (i'm running a campaign for city court judge, and have worked on many campaigns over the past 5 years).  your job sounds fantastic!  is it fun?  if i ever decide to move south, can you hire me? lol

eta:  and thanks for the comments on my title, ladies!  i thought it was funny, and lord knows i try to find fun wherever i can in this place!

i test software for a financial software company.  we have just one product, but are sort of expanding.  i have a bs in applied mathematics and although the job description required math (or econ) degrees, i really think anyone could be trained to do what i do.  i've found that it is incredibly difficult to find a job as a math major.  that's why i'm going back to school to get an accounting degree cuz there are millions of those jobs & the pay is the same or more than i make now!  i just wish i could get into the field w/o a degree, cuz i would make the move now!

I'm the Marketing Communications Analyst for a healthcare IT company. We sell web-based clinical software applications that integrates disparate data across multiple systems to improve decision support at the point of care.

Basically, our software helps docs provide better healthcare because they can access all details of your medical record when they need it!

Oh, and I majored in Management of Technology.

I work for a Software company in PA. My company is a LAR (Large Account Reseller) selling Software and Hardware to Businesses. We do Access Management and keep track of large companies' software licensing. My title is a Vendor Account Manager, more specifically, I work as the Computer Associates Account Manager. I am basically in charge of motivating, training, bribing our sales reps.. making sure they sell Computer Associates' brand of Software.

It's fun and I get bonuses when they do well.

I have a Marketing Degree and get to use it a little.. But mostly I am in a Sales Support role.

I am an Associate Software Engineer for a large Solution Based Company (the company produces both software and hardware). The division I am in develops software for the government. I did a bachelor's in Comp Sci, and actually ended up using my education. However, I am planning on going to business school and switching careers soon. Even the description of my job bores me.

I work for a non-profit environmental conservation group.  In one quick sentence I basically help develop and implement strategies to protect habitat for endangered or threatened plants and critters.  I have a BS in Landscape Ecology.

Hey shopgirl82, I know you've probably mentioned this before, but where did you go to college?
