as an extension of the fashion crimes thread--give credit where it's due, right?

--one girl I saw at FIT yesterday had chin-length dark hair, fair skin, and was wearing a beautifully-fitting, cute little short-sleeved vintage dress: kelly green with a little navy print. She also had short, slightly slouchy dark blue ankle boots. I wish I had taken a picture--she looked amazing.

--most successful summer skirt & boots combo of the day: pale blue graphic T, mildly poofy knee-length cotton skirt, white with an abstract red print on it, and weathered midcalf brown boots, not overtly cowboy-style. Gorgeous.

--fitted wrap-style top, full, graceful circle skirt and dainty peep-toe shoes. I forget what the exact colors were, but it was a very light, non-matchy composition of pink and pale aqua blue, I think. All the pieces looked vintage-y. Loved it.

Today a student of mine had on a lt yellow 3/4 sleeve cardigan, ivory wide legged pants, and cognac brown colored mules.  It just looked so classy.

short sleeved abstract print Marni top with tank layered underneath. With cuffed linen shorts and white mayle like shoes. It was actually on mystylediary but I thought it rocked.

went to dinner last night at brio and saw the best looking 2 girls...

one had on a crisp white button down, dark denim trousers and brown high heeled clogs with a slightly messed pony tail and her friend had gorgeous blown out blonde hair with a tan/khaki suit.

they just looked so perfect sitting there, sipping their wine and sharing stories with each other...

*sigh* i am usually drawn to people who look meticulously (sp?) put together because i always feel like i look like a big mess.

Here's one from one of my students today (the well dressed ones DO exist!). It was simple but so cute:

black, short-sleeved cotton button-down shirt with just slightly distressed jeans (not abercrombie, purposefully distressed -- these looked authentic), black flats with sort of a tapestry print and a long, green beaded lariat. She has long curly hair and just sort of loosely pinned it back. It looked great!

the shoes looked sort of like these, although they were more structured and had a strap: N.Y.L.A. Dede-B

The other day this really cute girl was wearing a frayed, cut off jean skirt, mini but not very short, with a loose-fitting purple top, square-necked and gathered at the waist so it didn't look sloppy, and tapestry flats. She looked so darling.

A friend of mine, a guy, wears his shirts so well fitted and crisp, with the sleeeves rolled above his elbow, and with jeans that are perfectly slouchy and Italian shoes. I just want to eat him up, he looks so good all the time. Oh, and he has this slouchy v-neck sweater he puts over it sometimes. By the way, he's straight, and the last girl he went out with always dressed like a slob. Go figure.

That sounds like my brother. He loves blazers, cool jeans and fine quality clothing. But his gf looks like she crawled out from under the couch. Opposites attract?

A few weeks ago I went to see the band Garbage with some friends and this one girl, a friend of my best friend's bf was stunning. She one of the most gorgeous girls I had ever seen- curvy in a very movie star/pin-up way (not curvy like chubby), a perfect chestnut colored chin-length bob, perfect face. She was wearing COH jeans and a black tunic tank with black chinese beaded slippers. She had perfected simple glamour.

When I was in LA last year I saw a girl who I can't forget and will forever try to emulate. She had the shiniest (sp?) hair I had ever seen. And she was just wearing a t shirt with slouchy-but-still-fitted camoflage pants and Converse Chuck Taylors. But she was beautiful and exuded confidence. I have yet to discover the secret to looking effortlessly flawless.

I think the key is good hair and skin. If I'm going wear a shitty outfit I always do my hair well. So far I haven't achieved the effortlessly flawless look, but I believe I've taken the first steps. Oh yeah, and having Kate Moss's body would help too.

i agree- it really is the hair and skin and body.  Sigh.  I never look "groomed" if you know what i mean.

A couple days ago, I saw a girl wearing a white v-neck s/s tee with medium green (slightly olive) pants, a chartreuse belt, and a light foresty-green cordoroy tote bag. Nothing fancy, but the combinations of shades worked extremely well.
