Fashion Crimes Seen Recently
Permalink Closed

So what fashion crimes/Don'ts have you seen recently?  I saw three today on my way home from work:

  • A girl in her mid to late twenties wearing nude pantyhose w/flip flops.  Now I realize she was on her way home, but come on - Nude pantyhose & flipflops?  Um no.

  • A girl wearing celery green capri pants about two sizes to small for her - the result?  I could see the outline of her thong in front and back

  • A woman wearing pantyhose over her ankle bracelet - sorry but I hate when women do this.

Anyone else seen anything good lately?

Oh, I love this!

I have been stuck in the house all day but here are two that come to mind:

A mid-forties woman wearing a bright blue and green (almost flourescent) shirt & pants outfit with bright green shoes.

Two women around my age (early-mid twenties) wearing the exact same black shirt with similar jeans and similar shoes--now I have had this accidentally happen to me once, but even my BF noticed this one.

I am surprised I can't think of any more, because I see at least one fashion faux pas a day (and I am not even a fashion snob!).

oh lord, where do I start?

-Lots of those pleated A&F minis on my students

Some teacher ones -- I see so many I have to classify them. I love these people though -- they just need some Stacy & Clinton action!

"Classic Teacher" -those sleeveless rayon shifts that fall to about the ankle. (Never seen them look good on anyone.)

"Sporty Teacher" - knee-length jean skirt, disney shirt & running shoes w/socks OR shapeless capris in a solid color, shapeless T in another solid color (or stripes!)

"Matchy Teacher" -- patterned capris, usually black or white and a bright color. Matching brightly-colored sweater, usually matching brightly-colored shoes.

Love the teacher ones, Halleybird!  The matchy one is my new yearbook teacher to a t.  She will wear a turquoise top, turquoise floral capris, turquoise kitten heel mule things, and a turquoise bag and belt.  The sad thing is I think she thinks she's one of the "cool" teachers .

Seen on my most recent cruise:

A woman wearing sandals with Peds. (Those nude socklets worn with ballet slippers--I didn't know anyone still wore them.) This was a bizarre look.

An older woman wearing capris, white sneakers and white socks with a thick, shiny ankle bracelet worn over the sock. What was she thinking?

Males: Gold chains on gray, hairy chests. My personal pet peeve.

Also, balding men wearing long, long pony tales.

I will add that this was the best-dressed group of cruisers I have ever observed. Maybe the WNTW shows are having an effect! This was a 10-day Baltic cruise.

Oh good lord, I see fashion faux pas every day around here!  Most recently:

  • Femullet walking down the street.  Always makes me wonder what they tell their hairstylists: "Let's see...Take a little off the top and leave the rest loooooooooooong.  Better yet, if you could give me a rattail, that'd be bitchin!"
  • 80's style power suit complete with shoulder pads.  I see these at least once a day
  • White walking shoes and socks to wear from the parking garage to the building (1 block people!  You can do it in heels!)
  • And then there are the hookers I see on my way in to work....

I'm sure I'll see more faux pas on the way to work tomorrow, so I'll take note and report back!  Geez, I feel snobby!

the only thing that comes to mind is an ankle bracelet with panty hose over top...

the problem is that i don't pay attention to those dressed badly- i pay attention to those dressed in what i consider is better than me!  so i could describe in full detail many outfits that are GORGEOUS!

That would be a great fashion poll:  describe what you have seen gorgeous.

Anyway, I saw someone yesterday wearing pantyhose (or kneehighs) with open toes shoes.  It stuck out like a sore thumb

Then today, one of my students had on a flourescent green shirt, flourescent green beaded jewelry, flourescent green flipflops, and a flourescent green hair bow.  It was all the exact SAME shade of flourescent green.  I guess I should be thankful for her matching abilities or it really would have been bad.

Went to the Old Navy in town tonight and saw an older (about mid-40's) lady dressed very inappropriately for her age.  She was in good shape and attractive, but her outfit just screamed teenager.  I know older women (non teenagers) can dress trendily (is that a word?) and look good, as shown on this board, but on this woman, she just did it incorrectly.

I think what made it worse was that her teenage daughter had on pretty much the same outfit.

Even my husband noticed, and he never notices these things.

I see a couple EVERYDAY  at work:

One of my co-workers............she just turned 59 (she'd piss her pants if she knew I knew how old she was, she swears she looks about 30.)

Whatever the holiday is she wears it.For our last holiday (4th of July) and the 4 weeks preceding the holiday she wears:

A t-shirt under her blazer with a flag, a flag pin that blinks, and flag socks.........and the kicker is: Flags painted on her nails..................woof!

My boss wears white opaque tights with black pumps.

P.S. The flag lady also has bleached blonde hair with a nasty curly perm, her bangs are teased and I think she sprays them with AQUA NET!

Federal gubmint employee here, I see fashion crimes every day.

  • Skirt suit with opaque hose and white reebok high tops, the kind with velcro.  In the office, at a meeting, not walking to work.

  • Blue and brown puff-selved paisely blouse with a horizontal wide-striped black and white skirt.

  • Several women in their early-mid 40s with flamingneon capris and unshaven legs.

  • Vertical striped button down shirt with horizontal striped tie.  This may not be a fashion crime, but I think it looks really bad.

  • Trapped-in-the-eighties woman.  Wears neon color every day.  Has peroxide blonde hair that must add at least 6 inches to her height.  Wears colored Keds sneakers to work to match her neon pants/shirts.  Today her outfit features one of those t-shirt tie things that people used to knot their shirts with.

carmenb513, I think your co-worker must have a twin sister who works in my office.  No flags on her nails, but she goes all out for every single holiday.  She *loves* to break out the gigantic tacky wooden holiday jewelry or the plastic stuff that lights up and *cringe* plays music.

I think every office has one of these.  It must be a secret, mandatory hiring rule- all offices and other places of work must have at least one tacky dresser who takes holiday dressing to the extreme (bonus points for snowman appliques and jingle bell earrings).

I also think every office/place of work as the Matchy-matchy Lady, with her brightly patterned pants (she has them in various lengths and prints and they are seasonally appropriate, ie, big tropical leaf pattern for summer, leaves for autumn, ect.  Some of them even take it as far so as they are teetering on the edge of the Happy Holiday Dresser with pants in holiday prints, such as snowflakes or mistletoe).   Of course, there is always a matching shell and an equally loud, matching cardigan (most likely in a different color than the shell so as to make the most of the matchy-matchiness and also blinds all other co-workers with it's brightness).  Lastly, her bag and her shoes are the exact same, annoying shade as one of her tops, probably the cardigan b/c it's the outer layer.  She's also probably wearing knee-high panty-hose with her loafers or dowdy pumps.

Hahahah Nyla, you're hilarious.  The only crime I've seen lately is my 48 year old Mom wearing a mini skirt and a baby tee.  She wasn't joking, either.

OMG I was thinking about this exact thread walking down Michigan Ave recently.

I saw a women wearing full on 80's jeans, stonewashed with tears on the knees and at the butt

A guy wearing black jeans and white high top sneakers!!!

3 girls all wearing matching pink shirts and jeans while in Saks, I loved the look on the sales persons faces when they saw them coming

Alot of sandals and opaque tights too short skirts and women pretty much convinving themselves if they can squeeze into a Medium than they are a Medium. My new motto, if you wear a Large, buy a Large.

OMG! It's the Zack Morris look! Hahaha!

I suppose I'll answer the actual poll:

  • My office has the matchy-matchy lady: yesterday she was all about pink, today, she's clad in blue--nuff said

  • My boss likes to go running.  He wears spandex biker shorts and a waaay too short t-shirt do so.

  • I went to the mall the other day and every single little teeny-bopper I saw was in the same outfit: tiered skirt (I saw all different lengths, from butt cheek to ankle) with a little camisole with sequined trimmed.  Good grief! Put some individuality into it, people!

Yet again today, I saw a girl my age in pants 2 sizes too small for her.  You could see the outline of her undwear and her butt looked huge because they were too small.  Why do girls do this???

My favorite is when the jeans are too tight and the shirt too short and you end up seeing love handles poking out over the top of someone's jeans.  Eeeew.

I've heard it's called a "Muffin Top!"
