I was actually just going to post something about that. What does everyone else think? I really have no clue about jewelry (everything I have is either cheapie stuff or "real" stuff (tiffanys/zales/etc.). Are these way overpriced?
I think that they are overpriced. Unless they are 14K gold (or higher), not gold-filled or gold plated.
The last one seems to be an okay price, if not slightly overpriced. I can't tell if those are crystals or peridot. If it's peridot, that price is okay.

ok, I think I'm leaning toward the third one- don't know that I ewould really get that much wear out of the peacock even though it's grogeous. The green stones are peridot and the reddish ones are something that starts with a c.
I would choose #3, it is beautiful....can you post the description of that one? I am curious as to what type of stones/findings are used for the piece. As for the peacock ones I think they are nice too but not worth $100. JMHO.
I personally dislike the last one a lot (nothing personal to whomever designed it; I don't even know who made it) - I don't like the proportions or the colors; it's just all wrong to me.
The peacock ones are beautiful, and for those who asked, they are listed on Virgin Threads. The designer is Audrey Hu.
I tend to think those prices (for the peacocks) are a little high too...but then I don't know how long it takes her to make them, and what her overhead costs and profit margins are. Those necklaces are in gold fill, not plate, so they should wear just as well as 14 karat gold (while costing significantly less) over time.

Hey, thanks for doing all that research for us! My vote stays with #1, #2 is my second.
As far as the third it looks like cherry/strawberry quartz, peridot or green crystal and lavender quartz. I'm not a fan of the third one either. Something about the colors or something that I'm not liking.
Well, it wasn't all that much, LOL. I have VT bookmarked and I check it occasionally to see what's new there. And I'd seen Audrey's work on there previously, so it was easy to go look at what the components were.
#3 bothers me for several reasons (most of you could probably care less why, so feel free to stop reading this post now if you want):
- the colors are jarring - at least in that photo
- it looks like the not-so-well-done melding of two distinctly different techniques
- it doesn't look like it will hang right.
And, (again, this is all IMO), the stones are relatively inexpensive ones, and there's no really time-consuming work on the piece (I could be wrong on this, but looking at the photo it appears to be basic stringing and some simple wire loops for the carnelian), so I'm not sure why it's priced at $125.
I think a good design has to be well-thought out, and has to have balance at least, if not symmetry. Asymmetrical designs are tough to carry off, and I don't think this necklace is balanced looking at all. And it doesn't look well-thought out to me either; it looks like someone had two partially done pieces and said, "I'll just put these together" with no real forethought about it.
Just my 2 (probably closer to 3) cents' worth.
My only concern with the feather necklaces is that all the pieces look so light, and I'd worry that it won't always hang right either because there's no weight in front to keep it hanging down. I'm not articulating this last bit well at all but Christie, I think you know what I mean...

Yep, I got ya, on all accounts. You think that the reddish stone is carnelian? It's so hard to tell on the computer screen whether it's orangish or pinkish (cherry quartz). If it's carnelian, then I really don't like that color combo. My guess is that those green stones aren't peridot, but rather some kind of crystal (but again, it's hard to tell on a computer screen without a description). Peridot would be the only reason to jack up the cost (and peridot isn't all that expensive anyway).
About the peacock feathers, the loop holding it together at the top with the jump ring seems to be small enough that it won't blow around. But then again, it is a feather....
HI again! All three are from virgin thread actually. nyla: the third necklace is carnelian and peridot (sp.). here are links to the descriptions: http://store.virginthreads.com/verimacapero.html (#3) http://store.virginthreads.com/ahjenapefeho.html (#2) -- Edited by ILoveChoo at 09:15, 2005-08-31
Hey thanks! Okay, I'm going to have to say that I dislike the color combo. It just doesn't look right to me. Sorry. But I still love the color of the first one!

yeah, I like the colors in the picture but think it might be orangy irl, which would be bad. I think I'll keep #1 on my wishlist but wait a while and see if I find anything better/cheaper since it doesn't really seem to be worth that price.
