Weekend shopping - post thanksgiving
Permalink Closed

I know I can't be the only one who went shopping this weekend!

I didn't really do Black Friday or even Christmas shopping, but I bought some stuff for myself.

I tested all the liquid eyeliners at Sephora - I was surprised that the actual Sephora brand was my favorite - and the cheapest. Got it in two colors:

These boots said they are waterproof and rated for -20F. I'm still not thoroughly convinced that they will be warm enough for me, but it's the coldest rating I could find at Nordstrom Rack
(the trim on mine is black, not grey)

and new shower cap - very exciting wink.gif

I bought myself a new jacket for skiing. It is very similar to this one

Then, I bought a down puffy coat from Michael Kors that is similar to this one, but doesn't have fur trim or a hood.

And, I bought the lemon-basil scented body wash and body butter. Sephora in JC Penny had a special where you got the pair for $15 (they are usually $19.50 for the wash and $29 for the butter!).

hmmm. none of the photos I posted showed up....

I saw a segment on the news that stated most of the post-thanksgiving sales this year have been personal purchases vs. gift buying.

Just doing our part to improve the economy

I bought several decorative curtain rods and metal rings for curtain panels at Joann Fabrics for 40% off plus an additional 20% off the reduced price on Friday.  I guess I need to figure out what gifts I need to buy still...

I bought two Max Studio shirts that are basically rip-offs of the James Perse contrast panel shirts. These are the colors in which I got them (from TJMaxx at $10 each). I also got a Tommy Hilfiger sweater for $25.00.

...Oh, and for Small Business Saturday, we spent $300+ on our new cat (neutering, + a bunch of other stuff) at the vet!  This is in addition to the other $700 we've spent saving his life in the past 4 weeks.  His name is Dean.  He showed up on our back patio, didn't leave for 3 days. We fed him, and took him in. We brought him to the vet to scan for a chip, and we found that he was very sick.  He's been recuperating away from our existing kitty.

I haven't bought anything this weekend...this did get delivered...I have hemmed and hawed at getting an SLR.

For now I am going to practice and learn all the settings on this one, and get a Nikon SLR next year. This week I will be stocking up on some hair products with some current promos going on....other than that, I'm not going all out w/ xmas shopping this year.

Well, I did some shopping Friday and Sat.

I'm getting books for all my friends kids this year.  Some will like it, some not so much.  But I like to keep it even for all of them.

At Nordstroms Rack I found a silver initial necklace for my goddaughter who will turn 13 this Christmas Day.  I wanted to get her something special, but not too special since I know she'll lose it before she turns 14.hmm

For me (for Christmas from other people)

jmango, did you find a deal on the Nook? My mom wants to get one for my dad for Christmas, and we haven't seen any discounted. She's going to pay full price this weekend, and I was hoping you had some scoop!

Hey Greendiamond,

The wifi nook was on sale at bestbuy for $99 for black friday. They sold out there quite quickly apparently, but Walmart was price matching sales from other stores- so I (ahem, my little bro) was able to get it from Walmart for $99.

Refurbished models are being sold all over the place (with the same warranty as the new ones) as well at- buy.com, overstock.com, the B&N website, and the Barnes and Noble ebay store. Even if you dont order a refurbished model, I suggest those stores for cases, because the cases are new and a LOT cheaper than from B&N directly (although the dont carry the whole range)

hth!

The bracelet is Alexis Bittar - I'm not sure of what it's made of but the retail is redic at $400+ Unfortunately, it weighs like 2 lbs, I'm not even sure if I'll wear it.

The earrings are Simon Alcantara and they're lapis lazuli and silver.

I did it this way bc I have a nickel allergy and havent bothered wearing jewelry unless it is 14K gold and most of what I have are posts or huggies, nothing fancy.  This way, I can get my rash and send em back, lol.  It is a little creepy wearing earrings that have been worn but I'm going to disinfect first of course and I imagine the company cleans them after returns (or I'd hope they do).

well, if you wear the bracelet on your "drinking arm" you'll get some exercise over the evening wink

I don't wear much costume jewelry myself, and I buy lots of antique/vintage/used jewelry. I clean everything in my ultrasonic cleaner.  When I need a quickie clean I'll use window cleaner and a toothbrush with a good rinse of water.  Alcohol works too for sanitizing posts.  However, I've yet to hear a story of earlobe transmitted diseases confuse

I keep picking up items for myself while shopping for others...

Sweater for SIL, scarf and new Uggs for me.

PJs for sis, new hat for me.

New mittens for me (nope, didn't even bother to buy a Christmas gift with this purchase)

All this new cold weather gear is because I bought 2 new winter coats on black friday!

For the love of shopping, I have to quit!

I actually ended up wearing the bracelet, despite its weight and got a TON of compliments.  I wish I could keep it!

I didn't end up wearing the earrings - they looked better in the photo and when I wore them, the look came across as blue plastic, not individual semi precious stones.  I felt like I was wearing $3 hoops from Strawberry's:

Hot shoes, Xtina!

Boots, I totally want to read the Hunger Games trilogy. I saw it in a magazine and it looks pretty good for a YA set.

So jealous of your nook, jmango!

So ashamed to say it, but I read her copies (instead of buying my own) and it's a good YA read.  Better than Twilight IMO because the lead character is a strong, self reliant girl.

I don't blame you! Lol. I just put this on my request list for the library. Can't wait to read it - glad you liked it!
