The past couple of years I have really bought alot of stuff for fall/winter.  I have some really nice outfits and am working on putting together a couple of more for this fall/winter.  However if I get all of them worn twice this fall/winter, I will be lucky.  It just doesn't get cold here in south Alabama long enough to really warrant me spending alot of money on fall/winter stuff.  For instance, last year it was still in the 70's through about the first two weeks of October and we didn't have our first really cold spell (high in 40s) until the 2nd week of December.  It was cool enough to wear long sleeves in late October and November, but even then we would have some days where it was warm.  Basically, the only cold weather we have is from about mid Dec through February, and then it comes in spurts.  Most of the time it will get to a high in the mid 50's.

Anyway, I am thinking that I should invest most of my clothing money in spring/summer even though I love winter clothing much better.

I would like to hear from you girls who live in a climate where it is mostly warm or mostly cold and learn how you handle your clothing situation.

I live in Ca so I can see your point.

This fall/winter is too perfect for you. You can invest in many pieces that can pull double duty. Great for fall and spring. Like gauchos with tights or boots for cooler weather and without or heels when it is warmer. You can find the bolero style sweeater with short or long sleves. I think the big thing this fall is color and texture.  If you invest in some tights and a few sweaters in fall colors you could adapt any summery pieces you may pick up along the way instead of a bunch of fall winter items. Oh and how about some short sleved jackets.

I am sooooo excited about this fall because of this. I can use many of the pieces I already have and add a fall twist, like some chocolate brown, tights or boots and I am all set.

One thing you could do is by ss tops to go under blazers and then you can wear just the tops in the spring and fall.  Also 3/4 sleeve blazers and tops are another alternative.

I totally hear you on this.  Our weather in NC is similar to Alabama's, but we probably have maybe 3 more weeks of winter than you do, but it still doesn't get cold here til Nov. or Dec.  I think spending more $$$ on your spring/summer wardrobe makes a lot more sense for you than spending that $$$ on winter clothes.

Get yourself a few pairs of pants that you can wear year round--I'm thinking maybe Express Editors are a good option, since they're cute and fairly inexpensive, plus they go on sale often enough.  Colors like black, brown, khaki, and olive green work for all seasons.  You don't want lined pants or anything wool since you won't really need them.  As far as tops go, layering is key.  Button down 3/4 sleeve tops with tanks underneath and a blazer on top should keep you warm enough and they're all items that you can wear the rest of the year.  One or two versatile sweaters in a neutral color should also keep you cozy, but you probably don't need more than that.  Camis layered over tees or underneath blazers/sweaters/cardigans should also do the trick.

Basically, buy things that you can wear in a variety of ways.  Here are some items that could work for you:

CITY DKNY Shawl Collar Cardigan

midnight garden skirt  ava skirtcasablanca skirtThese skirts can be worn in spring/summer with sandals and in fall/winter w/ boots and a sweater

little swiss dot blousemorning moors pants

silk isles blouse  This top looks great w/ jeans, olive green pants, brown pants, or a brown skirt.

DKNY Jeans Panel Skirt  Skirt can be worn w/ chunky tights like this in the fall/winter and w/o tights in spring/summer

Versatile pieces like this can go from season to season, which decreases your CPW and will give you a flexible wardrobe.
