Crafty ladies - need advice on DIY project - elegantly waisted belts
Permalink Closed

I really like these belts but I don't think I could justify laying $200+ dollars for a belt. It seems rather easy to make but sometimes the simplest things are the most difficult to do.

How would you approach this project? I want to make sure that this belt is sewn together (or that at least a sueded side isn't against my body.. to stain clothes etc). Does anyone have any tips for sewing leather?.. or know where to buy good leather in long strips?

image of the belt rolled out. they won't let me copy it!

another one. this one seems like it's one width thru-out the belt

This site has choice leather in a variety of colors and at $2.80 per square foot. Unless you are really good at using a sewing machine, I would suggest cutting the 3 strips to make the belt (larger middle piece, and the two wrap around sides pieces) and then taking them to an alteration/shoe repair place to do the sewing for you. It really shouldn't cost much as they would be just sewing the 2 side pieces to the main one (unless you also want top and bottom hems). HTH!
