Recommendation for shampoo and conditioner
Permalink Closed

I have always had my hair highlighted. But recently when I wash my hair I noticed that it gets really, realy tangled after I step out of the shower. The shampoo I am using right now is the Loreal, for color treated, dry hair. When I try detangling my hair its just so hard to brush, ugh!!!!!! Anyone have any recommendation for a shampoo??? Am I perhaps using a shampoo that is too hard on my hair????

It's not a shampoo, but I swear by:

Leaves my hair soft & works miracles after I've towel-dried my hair.

What conditioner do you use? I think that's way more important for tangling than shampoo. I use Dove something-or-another super moisturizing (can't remember exactly in case you can't tell). I switched from biolage to help in the budget department and I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised.

Also, do you use a big-toothed comb to detangle your hair when you get out of the shower? It's way easier on your hair than a brush and it works through most of the tangles, at least for me (and I have really long hair so I deal with this problem all the time).

Another tip is to brush your hair thoroughly before you wash it. I always do that when I'm going to let it air dry so I don't have to worry about detangling it when it's wet.

Hmm, I might just try that Blubirde, brushing my hair prior to washing it.

THe weird thing is my hair gets tangled when I am trying to rinse out the shampoo from my hair. I use the Loreal condtioner, colortreated, dry hair. And once I put it on its soft and mangeable. But afterwards it gets all tangled and knotty. Its so bad I have to use my fingers to seperate my hair. My hair is very thin and wavy, so I have to be careful not to pull to hard or brush it.

I notice when I've gone too long between trims, my hair gets super tangled no matter how much conditioner I slather on it.  So, you might consider that, if you haven't had a trim in a while.

I dont think it matter too much what you use.. BUT when you put on your conditioner, do you run your fingers through your hair to make sure you "comb" it through. I've found that just doing this, helps tremendiously in detangling when I'm done.

I am aaaaallllllll about the expensive shampoo/conditioners.  I used Redken All Soft for a long time, and that stuff is GREAT.  I now use Joico Kerapak, and my hair is feeling pretty soft now too.  I never have problems with tangles, and my hair is down to about mid-back.  Definitely comb your conditioner through with your fingers.  AND when you're shampooing, focus on the roots, and don't really focus on lathering up the rest of it.  Should help a little with the tangles.

After towel drying I like to alternate between 2 products:  Redken So Long, and Aveda Brilliant Damage Control.

I also agree about combing your fingers through your hair when applying conditioner in the shower.  I don't know if you're into natural products, but Avalon Organics Ylang Ylang Glistening shampoo is great.  It's sodium laureth sulfate free so it doesn't strip my hair like other regular shampoos, and it makes it super soft. I haven't tried the conditioner but I've read reviews on MUA and they are pretty positive.

i use a shampoo and conditioner in the shower and when i get out, i use a leave-in conditioner as well.  it helps when i am combing out my wet hair and helps protect it and keep it moisturized throughout the day.

have you tried using a detangler? i use one by rusk (i think it's kukui nut and grapefruit... or something like that)... i actually use it as a light conditioner for my fine hair, but it's actually a detangler.

i also recommend what the other girls mentioned and that is running the conditioner or detangler through your hair with your fingers or a wide tooth shower comb.
