Sophie,

I can help you out with South beach I go quite a bit. I'll actually be there Labor Day weekend as well! Where are you staying?

For Shopping

Lincoln Road has great boutiques and great resteraunts. Try teh Van Dyke for bad service and mediocre food but a great European feel and teh best people watching. Upstairs at the Van Dyke they have Jazz at night that is always great. Also on Lincoln is a resteraunt called Tirimasu, gret Italian. There are a ton of places on that strip to eat at.

Collins is also good for shopping but it's less boutique and more big name stores ie Barney's co-op, Armani etc. V expensive but great shopping. For more eats and people watching Ocean Drive is great. All the places are pretty much the same. New cafe is great, it the sister resteraunt to Van Dyke.

Other resteraunt recommendations

Barton G's is our favorite, it's expensive but sooo worth it, the food is amazing. For a good hearty breakfast try Big Pink

For nighlife

Pawn Shop, SoHo Lounge, The Shore Club, Mansion, and Skybar are all pretty cool. If you are more low key and not into waiting in line to be seen just hit Lincoln road for a late dinner and walk around, watch the people, grab a fancy coffee at one of the outdoor cafe's and just watch people. There is also a movie theater on Lincoln for rainy days. If you are looking for anything else just let me know. I can give you more information than you know what to do with.

I just spoke to my brother who goes to southbeach quite often because he his old roommate lives there. He told me it is a lot of fun so long as you enjoy yourself. He says most important, are the pelicans that are indiginous to the region, they have a knack for following you around through the sidewalks begging for some table scraps...just tell them to shoo...

I think your brother was messing with you. Pelicans don't follow you around the sidewalks. There are alot of pigeons, especially on Lincoln Road but not Pelicans.

Collette,

Thanks for all the info.  My bf and I are going for quick 3 night get away bc I'm transitioning jobs.  We're staying at the Courtyard Miami Beach South Beach.  It's located on Washington Avenue 2 blocks from the beach.  Do you know which one it is?  Hope it's okay.

I've actually already made reservations at Barton G's for friday 9/2.  Also, I'm curious to check out Bed. (I saw your last post).  I'm totally up for anything fun.  I want to get a tast of everything I can fit in to such a short trip.  These other night life places you mentioned look interesting too.  Which ones are more nice vs. really meatmarket style club like?  I'm not into meatmarket style clubs but want to go some where fun and really really lively.  Also are there any other resturants that turn into cool clubs later on?  I'd love to make some reservations at these type of places inorder to avoid lines and getting in issues.

Thanks for all your input.  Who knows, maybe we'll end up at the same place one of nights!

Im telling you guys, there are a lot of pelicans there. Maybe not a million, but a lot. Oh well, that doesnt really matter. Sophie, I think your trip will be a lot of fun. I think 3 nights is more than enough time to sightsee, go out, have nice dinners and do a lot of things. Just dont pressure yourself into doing everything or else it wont be a vacation and will be more like a task. Trust me, I went to Los Angeles for the first time two years ago (I know, dont laugh) and it felt like such a tiring trip because I was so stressed out making sure I saw Hollywood, Santa Monica, the Getty, UCLA, the Beach, Melrose, Beverly Hills boutiques (which I must say have the best shops)...just be relaxed and know you guys have an itiniary but dont live and die by that itiniary.

Have a wonderful trip with your boyfriend. Is he excited to go? Who's idea was it? Is he a cool guy? Does he like pelicans?

I'm so happy you are going to Barton G's. Do yourself a favor and save room for desert, they are genius, way more then enough for 2 people to share. Also if you can ask if you can sit outside. Their outside seating is so romantic, don't get me wrong inside is great too but I truly believe the outside setting makes for a much more interesting dining experience. Tantra and Touch are also resteraunts that have a club feel later at night, more so on the weekends though. I would definately recommend BED, kitchy but good food.

I'm not sure about the Hotel, we've never stayed at a Hotel because we have a place down there. I'm sure it's fine though, no matter you'll spend very little time in your room anyhow! You'll have a great time, be sure to pack los of sexy clothes and enjoy yourself!

Sophie,

My husband and i go to south beach a few times a year. I recommend Grillfish on the corner of Collins and Espanola. Really fresh seafood.

I second Van Dykes for Jazz in the evening. There is always a live band and good mojitos.

There is also a cigar bar on Lincoln Mall that squeezes a 5-7 pc band into a corner and everyone moves the tables out of the way and DANCES. It's a small place but lots of locals there. Maybe Collette knows the name of the place. It's near Van Dykes (i think). They also do a fabulous mojito.

Have fun and i dont see pelicans in south beach (unless your near the ocean) but there are tons of huge lizards everywhere which is pretty typical for most places in south florida.

Just wanted to give a quick update on the trip.  Also wanted thank everyone who helped with places to go.  I truly felt in the know bc of everyones input.  I went Mansion, Van Dykes, News Cafe, Crobar, walked on Lincln, ocean, and washington.  Also went to Biscayne bay for shopping and took the boot tour of all the houses on the man made islands.  Two places that we ate at the I really enjoyed was Sushi Samba on Lincln and also Nemo's on Colins.  We also went to Fergosmbero or something like that on Lincln which was crowded and fun for a drink/two.  Clevelander was an outdoor bar/club that we went to on Ocean.  It was pretty fun but kind of touristy.  Cafe Med on Ocean is okay for lunch.  Also the Loews hotel has a nice pool to relax at.  The highlight of the trip for me was going to a party at Versace's house before he was shot.  There was a private party being held there which my bf somehow mangaged to talk our way into.  It was really interesting to go into his home and see where he actually lived.
