STYLETHREAD -- LET'S TALK SHOP!

Well, thankfully school is not in session yet (traditional school year).  Unfortunately the surrounding area near our school is known as "Crow Village" which is gang territory ( My family and I  used to live there from 5th grade till after high school).  I don't want to say parents (I don't know what they are thinking) are used to it but at least they did catch the guy that did it. I have had many a "gang" family in my classroom.  It's pretty sad.  The sheriff station is only a few yards away from the school.  We constantly hear sirens and hellicopters.  We have been under lockdown a few times (bomb scare, chasing criminals through the school, etc).  My 3rd graders always say "Someone didn't learn their 3rd grade standard" (learning the laws and being a good citizen) whenever they hear the commotion.  It def. is not something you get used to.  It actually FREAKS me out!!!
