Ordered the first dress, now which "back up dress"??
Permalink Closed

okay, since i have to order this formal dress online i want to get a 2nd one as a backup.  i found this great site called lightinthebox.com, a little bit iffy but they have two that i like that are reasonably priced - many of their peices are copies of celebrities' dresseds at the oscars, etc..  returns are only for an 85% refund, which sucks but at $100 and free shipping i can live with it.  anyway, here they are:

1)  basic but i love how vintage it looks.  and i think it would be easy and flattering:

the bow can be tied in the back.  the reviews are good and there is even an IRL pic.

2)  this is the christina hendricks dress, which i also love.  it's very mad men to me.  btw i like orange with my coloring so the color would not be an issue:

the first dress is SCANDALOUS!

The second one is nice - much more subdued... depends on what you are going for...

Thanks, D.  So your vote is the first one then?  Is the second one blah?  Anyone else?

Both are gorgeous! Also, the 2nd one - you'd wear it probably once, due to the bright color - too memorable. what's the occasion? I'm all envy that you get to go somewhere & actually wear such dresses! Both are great! Black is such a classic & sensual statement!!!

Hi yana - thanks!  the occasion is a ball here in Istanbul, turkey, where i currently live.  I'm not worried about the dress being memorable, as we move around a lot (about every two years).  leaning towards the orange one but there are no reviews on that one and lots of positive reviews on the black one.  not sure if i should be "safe" w/ the black or go with the orange.  my inclination is to go with the orange b/c i feel it is more different.  also, i was thinking that i could always cut it off into a cocktail dress if i wanted to get more wear out of it.

any more thoughts?

good points.  the black dress is anything but forgettable, and I like your idea about shortening the orange one...  as much as I want to say to get the black one even if you only wear it once (or wear it again a couple years down the road?) the orange one might be a better choice.

practical vote is for orange
frivolous vote is for black

I love the first one! And you could get another color so it wouldn't have to just be black if you don't like that. (I know that on your other post I was against that dress BECAUSE you couldn't see the other colors, but I think the difference is that this dress looks a lot less "complicated" and there aren't different fabrics and details everywhere, so I think it's easier to picture what the other colors would look like in this dress)

Sure, if you move a lot & will be able to use the dress more than once - excellent! & that orange hue is beautiful! I love the assymetrical neckline!
