Please Help Me! Eyeliner Issues
Permalink Closed

Ok - I need some help/advice.  I wear eyeliner on both my upper and lower lash line - no matter what eyeliner brand I use - it all smears, smudges, or comes off.  I've tried the cheapie drugstore brands, I've tried Clinique which was the worst yet, and I'm now using Estee Lauder, which I really like how it goes on, but by mid day the liner on my top lids has made a line in the crease of my eyelid and the liner on the lower lids smears

I went and looked at eye makeup base - but they told me that's just to keep eyeshadow in place.  What can I do or what am I doing wrong?  Maybe it's just my eyes.  I have very small lids - so maybe that's the problem w/getting eyeliner in the creases?  Ugh!

I use eye pencils - the kind that you twist up from the bottom.  I am not talented enough to apply eyeliner w/a brush.

Please help

i also have this problem, no matter what, but this is because i have basically no eyelid (asian). when i use liquid eyeliner, i don't seem to have this problem, but i can't use this on my lower eyelid,  However, I just recently purchases the revlon colorstay and this seems to work the best.  sometimes if i am not feeling too lazy i will set my eyeliner with a powder eyeshadow in black.  this really helps it last longer.   i have read though that dusting powder over your eye lid before applying the eyeliner helps too.

Yeah - liquid isn't an option for my lower lids.  Maybe I'll check out the revlon colorstay - you aren't the first person to recommend that stuff.  or maybe i'll try the black eyeshadow first too...i've tried the powder on my eyelid and it's not helping.

i barely have eyelids either..they are so small - which is what i think half the problem is.  Thanks for your input.

trust me, your eyeliner brush could be your new best friend.  if you get a good brush, it'll do the work for you--no talent necessary.  look for a nice stiff angled one, then all you will need to do is wet it, dip in a pot of eyeshadow, sweep off excess on a tissue and just place the brush were you want the line to be.  keep placing, until you get the look you want.  no "drawing" necessary.  good luck!

oh as for brands:  trish mcevoy makes great brushes.  hth!

I agree with esquiress. It is not hard to use a brush, you just need to practice a few times to get the hang of it. I dislike and like powder liners. I love the line you can create with it, but for me I have problems with it flaking since it is not waterproof. A pro of using a brush to apply your liner is that you can create your line however you like it, thick or thin. You can also get in the corner of your inner eye really well. Just remember to start from the outer corner and work inward. The best eyeliner I have ever used is Bobbi Brown's gel eyeliner. If I could only use one product from her line, it would be this. I have no problems with flaking and it stays on all day, but easily comes off with eye makeup remover. Also, fyi, I used to use just eyeliner pencils and was scared to death of using a brush, but was amazed at how easy it was! You just need to give it a chance. Also remember that all cosmetics are returnable, so if you purchase a brush and liner and can't get the hang of it after a few weeks, you can return it! (Just make sure you keep all the packaging and receipt.)
