This year for Halloween I think I'm going to be a ballerina. I have pretty much everything I need in my closet, except for the shoes. eBay has pointe shoes for like $10 - I don't really care if they are good quality or used a little since I'm just planning on wearing them for one night.
But my question is: I've never worn pointe shoes. I have no idea what they are like. Would I be able to just walking around like normal in them? Or should I stick with ballet slippers?

I advise against it, unless you like the feeling of encasing your feet in cement. Your feet would probably start hurting in less than an hour if you aren't used to them.
What about attaching satin ribbons to your ballet slippers?
I'd suggest wearing regular leather ballet shoes, and then maybe sewing pink ribbons to the toe shoes and looping them around your neck or over your shoulder so they're still a reference. Wearing toe shoes for just walking around will make you cry

Yikes! I had no idea they would be so uncomfortable. I've never worn them and I didn't know anyone who has either (until this post of course). Slippers and ribbons it is!

Pointe shoes are not made for walking or even constructed in a way that being on a flat foot would be comfortable. You can attach the same ribbons to regular ballet flats. If you plan on doing a lot of walking, put an arch support insert in the flats for comfort.
I agree that if you wear soft (technique) slippers, sewing ribbons on them will make them look more "authentic." There are loads of YouTube instructionals on sewing on ribbons.
