My bf is selling the house and I know nothing about the proper procedures. But anyway, the house is under agreement and the housing inspection was today and they were supposed to be finished at 6. I got home at 6:15 and found not the inspector, but the girl who wants to buy the house, her parents and the realtor milling around the house. Apparently, the inspector had left. I was told that I could come home at 6, so I wait until 6:15 and they were in the house.
Is this normal?
I was just irritated b/c you all know the day I've had. I just wanted to come home and kick back on the couch.
yes, at least in my experience, but your realtor should have let you know. It's the buyer's last chance to really see the house before they buy. We had the buyers at our house for an hour or so after the inspector, and we got to hang out at our new house after the inspection here. It's weird, but normal.

Yeah, I thought that the realtor was supposed to let us know that kind of thing. We knew about the inspection, but we had no clue that the girl and her family were going to be here.
BrazenCanadian, that's so weird that they were eating dinner! Aren't the owners of the house supposed to be MIA when there's a showing? We've always had to be.

As a buyer, you definitely want to be at the house with the inspector. It's your chance to hear straight from his mouth what is wrong/right with the house. It's difficult to plan how long it will take to inspect the house, so I'm not at all surprised that the realtor and buyer were there late. Buying a house is a HUGE deal, and they probably just wanted to discuss a few last things with their realtor before leaving.
This is going to sound harsh, but as a buyer (putting a wholelotta money on the line), you really don't care how inconvenienced the current homeowner is. What sucks for you is that you're not the actual homeowner, but still have to put up with all the annoyance that goes along with selling a house. Just remember, you'll be out soon...you'll be out soon...

Yes, and I can't wait. He came home tonight and I told him that the buyer was still here and that there was a problem with the air conditioner. He proceeded to flip out on me and tell me that I better not do anything to f*%# this up for him. WTF?? As if I'm some idiot who has no social skills. I didn't do anything wrong. I came back to the house after the designated time and wasn't aware that people were still there. And how would that f#$& things up anyway? I'm so freaking sick of this. I can't wait to move and have some peace. My new roommates better not turn out to be idiots.
