I'm officially a Houstonian ***Updated with Pics!!***
Permalink Closed

Well I packed up last week and made the move to Houston last Friday and have somewhat unpacked and set up my apartment.  I like it here so far and have met a few people in my complex.  I'm trying to get use to being alone in my apartment.  That has been the hardest thing since I'm use to having 3 other people around plus a dog.  Luckily I've only cried twice - when my parents left Sunday, and when the bf and brother left yesterday but I pulled myself together and found the Marshalls near the galleria and bought a work appropriate shirt.  Unfortunately the only places I know to go are the Galleria and Katy Mills which isn't always the best place for me to go

If anyone can tell me where other things are here I'd appreciate it.  Oh I'll try to post some pics of my new apartment later today since I know a few people were asking about it before.

Hey, it's good to have you back! Glad you are liking it in Houston so far.

I'm in MA, so can't help you with finding stuff over your way, but wanted to say hi anyway

I'm definetly going to get a cat in a month or two but I have to get a paycheck or two first.  A pet is $500 at my apt!! I've been researching rescue groups and found one in San Antonio that has the type of cats I like so I'll definetly be giving a homeless cat a new home when I can afford it.

well they are really strict about that and if you don't pay and get caught its a huge penalty fee plus you have to pay it right then or then you get charged for each day after that you don't pay.  I'm already going to have to sneak my parents dog in when he comes to visit for a couple of hours next month (they have to stay at a hotel to bring him). I want to sneak him in for the weekend but the parents won't let me

YAY!  I'm glad you like it - and a little sad that we didn't end up living there with you!  There are quite a few STers in Houston though, and LOTS of shopping too.  Whenever I move to a new city, going shopping (even if I don't buy) helps me feel more at home.  Enjoy your new place!

awww, welcome to Houston! I'm glad you are here!

As far as shopping you can go to Memorial City Mall. It's a good mall, but I looove the Galleria.

Yay - I'm glad you made it and you're getting settled.  It's always an adjustment getting used to living alone.  When I moved out of my parents and into my own apartment, I cried for a week, but then you adjust!  If you don't mind me asking - is your boyfriend moving there too?

Glad you are settled - I hadn't seen you around for a while & was wondering if it was because you were busy moving! You will love it - I promise. I'll have to come up with a little list for you - I know there are several shops I have searched for in Dallas and found that they were only in Houston & thought - DAMN - so if I think of them I'll let you know. Just look up some things that interest you when you see them here. Also, see if the chamber has a relocation guide for new residents or a welcome packet to the area? I'd be surprised if the apartment people couldn't give you some tips - they are usually pretty cute / stylish girls on principle for whatever reason & I'm sure are EXTRA friendly to you right now....

When you get sad, call your mom or your boyfriend, or your friends. I promise it will get easier - I was so bummed when I moved away but it does get better. You'll meet new people, be busy with your new job...and then there's always us!!!

Oh, and I did see that a Mi Cocina opened in Houston - probably my favorite mexican restaurant in Dallas!

Well everything seems to be coming together.  I am finding places that are closer to my apt so that I don't have to drive out towards Katy or the Galleria.  The other night I drove 15-20 mins away to go to Marshalls when there was one right down the street from me and I didn't know! Same thing with Target yesterday.  I'm learning.  I got phone service this morning and a phone book.  Internet should be up by friday morning yippie!!

I took some pics this morning of my work-in-progress apartment.  Still have the bedroom left and some pics for the living room.

Laken- I fly out Monday to Chicago for 2 weeks of training so I guess I officially start Monday! The mexican restaurant sounds nice I'll have to check it out.

Shopchicago- No he's back home until he graduates college in May then he's moving here.  He's just going to come one weekend a month since that's all Circuit City will give him.

LMonet- How is Denver? I'm sad your fiance didn't like Houston.  My only complaint is the traffic but that's only because I haven't learned side streets.  Otherwise its pretty cool but then again I'm in a different area than he was in.

Claudia- I did go to Memorial City Mall yesterday looking for a Target because I didn't know about the one on San Felipe.  It was a nice mall.

I found a site called citysearch.com and I've been checking it out for places to go things to see so its good but I just like to hear other people's recs who have been to these places you know.

Ok on with the pics:

Kitchen:

Living Room:

doll.jpg I didn't spring for satallite tv yet so I'm living with bunny ears My grandmother crocheted the doll and the doily (sp??) and the candles are my first anthro purchase (on sale)

Computer Room:

computerroom.jpg Eventually will hang a bulletin board on the wall and add some plants or something but not now.

Bathroom:

sink.jpg curtain.jpg  The bathroom is pretty much done.  Just need a few wall pics and to finish up those klenex and get the other kind.

Hallway:

Bedroom:

Well that's it!
