oh, do i have the place for you! i've been going to oxenrose (in hayes valley, on the corner of hayes and octavia) for the past year and i loooooove it. i get cut and color and i've never been disappointed. (i've gone from blonde to brunette, one length to layers with sideswept bangs, etc.) it's a really funky place, lots of the stylists have crazy hair (especially the guys), but they do totally normal haircuts and color too. i go to sophia and she's awesome. my hair has never looked better. i've also heard that j (a guy) works wonders. the prices are completely reasonable, especially for the city. i think a haircut is $45-65 depending on which stylist you see (i could be wrong on the price though, i usually get color done at the same time so i'm not sure what the exact breakdown is).

anyway, i definitely recommend oxenrose!

In the East Bay, Changes Salon is good (in Walnut Creek, on Broadway). I usually go to Liz, and I really like what she did with my sideswept bangs and layers ambitions. It's $37 for the first-level stylists, and goes up from there, but even the high level stylists are only $65 I believe.

yay! that's great that you got an appointment for next week- sometimes you have to wait a few weeks for an appointment because it's such a popular place. which stylist are you seeing?
