Vintage shoe sizes - Help
Permalink Closed

I am in love with a pair of vintage shoes on ebay but they are a size 9A - I normally wear a 9, what in the heck is an "a" - is this narrow? I am thinking in my head that a 9B is "norm" - I really don't want to waste my time having to relist these if I'm sure they won't fit (and I'm in no way a narrow).

Any advice?

I'm not an expert on this at all, but from my understanding, most vintage shoes tend to be more narrow than shoes made today.  In a new pair of shoes, a is narrow, b is average, c is wide, etc., but I don't know if the "a" in the ebay listing means the shoes are narrow by today's standards or narrow by vintage standards.  I would try e-mailing the seller if you can!

Yep, A is usually narrow.  I would email the seller and ask if they can measure the bottom of the shoe across the widest part - then you can compare it to your shoes and get an idea of whether they will fit.

most vintage shoes are super narrow (i almost always have to size up), but i think it really depends how old they are/the brand/style of shoe.
