Should I call back?
Permalink Closed

I received a phone call from another company in my industry about interviewing for a position in their company.  They left me a message.  Although I am not interested in interviewing or moving jobs right now, I might want to work for this company sometime in the future.  Should I call this guy back and let him know I just started a new job and I'm happy with it?  Or should I just ignore the message?  Do they keep track of these things in their records?

The funny thing is I haven't applied for any positions there in over 6 months.  I know that happens all the time, but it is weird because there has been this mass migration this summer from people in my department to this particular company.  It's like every week someone announces they are leaving to work there.  I wonder if it is not as big of a coincidence as I thought.  Maybe they are just actively recruiting people from my department because it is one of the most visible departments in our company.  Haha!  This is besides the point though.

I would call them back. What can it hurt to at least have a conversation? Besides you have to get the scoop.. They must be making great offers if everyone is moving over there!

I would definately call back - just out of courtesy. Although they may not technically keep records of things like this, I am a firm believer in that you never know when you may cross paths with the same people - particularly in the same industry in the same city. Obviously someone is interested enough in you to contact you, so they'd probably remember not receiving a call back, even if it is a mental note. I just think it's too easy to call back than to risk what may be construed as flakiness. You never know when you might need this guy!

And of course they are actively recruiting! You may even go listen - if other people are leaving they may be offering something great - it never hurts to keep your options open even when you are happy at your current job!
