I hate to be the person without the voice of reason, but if you love it get it. I bought a jacket from Betsey Johnson a few years ago that was much more than I usually spend on a jacket. I was the same way and could not get it off of my mind. I still wear it and I still love it more than anything else I own. A jacket like that you would be able to wear for years, because that is a style that never goes out. Think about what all you can wear it with and see if you can justify buying it by being able to wear it more.
I absolutely loved that jacket! When I saw how much it was, I gave up on it. It gets too cold here to spend a lot of money on a cropped jacket. I can see wearing it with all sorts of clothes, not just one outfit.
I would wait. Why spend that much money on one item? There have been a lot of things that I absolutely loved, but were way too expensive. I've always been able to find something similar, and a lot cheaper. I don't think buying something expensive just because you love it, justifies buying it. Especially when you probably won't get that much wear out of it, and since you can't wear it for another few months anyway. However it is a pretty jacket, but there are a lot of jackets this fall that look just like it.
Personally, it looks to me like Simplicity Pattern #4425 may be closer to what you want than that Vogue Pattern. It is already cut away at the bottom, and I think all you would have to do is lengthen the collar so that it goes down to that bottom button (let that be your only button) and make it wider at the bottom. What does everyone else think?
i think it's a pretty jacket and since i was out of the country, i thought, "hey, let's get someone to make it for me." and i got a seamstress to make one for me! hehe! she was great b/c she didn't use a pattern or anything. she just made it. it's PERFECT on me. i also got a bunch of other things custom made for me so i got some fall jackets/slacks set for the upcoming fall.
oh, yeah. i think it's a really pretty jacket (obviously) and if it wasn't for the fact i was out of the country, i'd probably find something as similar as possible cause i couldn't get myself to spend $400 on one item either. you said you have the extra money, why not splurge? wear it often and wear it proud! if you know you're gonna think about the money after you buy it, i say no cause a jacket as purdy as that should not be regreted after you buy it. if you think you can get someone to make it for you for much cheaper, i think you should do it. sewing yourself is also a fantastic option but you shouldn't give up so easily.
i'm jumping around alot but you have the money, buy it! pretttty jacket!!!
