Sephora makeovers?
Permalink Closed

Has anyone ever had their make-up done at Sephora?  I need all new make-up and I use 2 different brands (Clarins for skincare/foundation/powder and Stila for everything else) and it is kind of annoying to have to make 2 separate trips, which I have to do if I buy at the department store.  Will the people at Sephora use different brands of make-up on you when you go or do you have to stick with one brand like at Nordstrom?  Do you make an appointment?  I need a fall make-up overhaul and I am running out of a lot of things so it is the perfect time.

It's defintely worth it. This is how I learned a lot of makeup tricks and of tons of products I would've never tried otherwise. I always went after work on a weekday so there were never too many people and the makeup artists were totally willing to work on your full face even without an appointment. They use multiple brands, which the MA decides on based on your needs. I also went for my skincare needs and they were equally helpful on that end as well, mixing the best products from multiple lines.

I am a total Sephora whore...shoot me now.

Some sephora's are more bitchy about walk-ins than others.  I would call first and make sure that they don't require an appointment for a makeover.  I have been to some that haven't been busy but refused to do a makeover since I didn't have an appointment.

I know online purchases are 60 day returns no questions asked.  If its over 60 days I think you get store credit (online purchases) because they did that for me once when I missed the 60 days.

For the stores I don't know.  I think its still 60 days but I'm not 100% certain.

So, I went to Sephora yesterday. They were pretty busy and I told them I could just come back or make an appointment, but they insisted on finding someone for me. The greeter girl kept telling each salesperson that I needed all new make-up and that I was going to buy a lot of things. I mean, I did say I wanted all new things, but I couldn't decide if she was being tacky by saying that or if she was considering me important. So, this guy ends up doing my make-up. I was scared at first because I didn't know if I trusted a guy to do my make-up, but let me tell you, he did a great job! I have NEVER been able to find a lipstick color that I absolutely loved, but he found one for me yesterday. I really like the fact that he was able to use several different brands. It solves the department store problem of what do you do when you like the eye shadows from Stila but the lipsticks from Clarins and you want to see them together? He used some products from a brand called LORAC that I never heard of. Nice stuff. I love new make-up! It always makes me feel like a new person. Crazy, huh?

This is what I ended up with:

lipliner-LORAC

lipstick-LORAC

bronzer/blush-NARS

eyeshadows-Stila (I've always used these. LOVE them!)

Pure Volume mascara-Bourjois

Palette of different shades of cover-up-Make Up For Ever

foundation brush "flawless face"-Bare Escentuals

Wet/dry powder make-up-LORAC

perfume-Gucci Envy Me

So far, I've been told in store that they won't take back anything that's more than half-used, even if you have a receipt. I took back a bunch of things in the past that just didn't work well enough to justify their price tags.

If you don't have a receipt, it's obvious that you didn't use very much of the product, and they still sell the product, they will give you a gift card. I did this with a Smashbox color stick a year ago.

My memory is a little fuzzy on this.  He was of Asian descent.  I don't think I remember him wearing glasses.
