Belk?
Permalink Closed

I heard a rumor that Oklahoma City/Edmond is getting a Belk store.  I have never heard of it, so I looked it up online.  It seems to be only in the South.  Are any of you familiar with it.  Just curious about the quality and what they carry.  Their website looks like primarily housewares.

Thanks.

I kind of look at them like a high priced Kohls - you can find some cute stuff if you really dig, but it's mostly "older" lady clothes. Although they do carry a lot of Izod & other brands like that - I don't know if that helps, but I wasn't really impressed. Worth checking out once on your own though.

The last time I was in a Belk was over 10 years ago (in South Carolina), but I remeber it being a department store on par with Filene's. It may have changed since then, I didn't even know they were still around.

We have one in my hometown it just opened, they had cute stuff and their sales were really cheap. They had more stuff for men and children though then women.

The Belk by my house has a great shoe and handbag department.  The juniors department at the one near me carries some Free People clothing and some other cute things, but that's about the only department that isn't geared towards older women.  I think its a store worth checking out, especially if you don't have many other department stores.  HTH!

All Belks differ. There are 3 in my town and 2 of them suck. The other one carries some good brands like Kate Spade, Coach, Lilly, Lacoste, St. John, etc. It really depends on the demographics of the area. Hopefully you won't get a sucky Belk, there are some pretty bad ones out there. Regardless, they all have some great sales.

I have a Belk department store in my mall here in FL. They carry clothing, similar to JCPennys, and the entire downstairs is housewares. I look at it as a mix between Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohls. But who knows, maybe yours will be different

This is so funny because where I grew up, Belk was the nicer dept. store.  So it's weird to hear it compared to Kohl's and Penney's.  I've been to lots of them and it totally depends on the area.  The one here in Charlottesville is just alright, the one where I went to college was pretty great.  They had a shoe salon with nicer brands (not Manolos or anything but Kate Spade, Coach, Stuart Weitzman, etc.).  They have a section with MaxStudio, Free People, Lucky, and stuff of that quality.

Do you have Dillards?  Our Belk and Dillards were comparable.  I hope yours is nice, because like the other ladies said, there are some that are not even worth walking into. . .
