Ok, I want to get an digital player and my research has pointed to the iRiver as the best option and value for me.

First of all, should I get the 799:

or the 999:

The reviews are better for the 799, but is that just cause more people have it?  The major difference I found is that the 999 has an internal battery while the 799 runs on a AA.

For anyone who has either one, are you happy with it?

Where do you download music from to put on it?  It will play anything that is mp3 right?  I know it plays wav and a couple of other types, but I'm pretty ignorant--I just want to make sure I can play the music I already have on my computer on it (mp3s).

I can get either one for around $150, so price isn't really a factor.  Any help/advice is appreciated!

i dont have one, but i got my boyfriend the older model of the 799, and it works fine and he loves it. it does play mp3s, and i think it also has a recording option, which is kinda cool. i have an ipod, and imo, the internal battery can be a pain, especially once you "use" it up and the battery only lasts an hour or so.

i'm sure both models are good for their intended purpose and both work fine.  i'd say go for what your needs are (storage capacity, size, "pretty" factor etc).  i'd go with the 799 with lots of memory so you can have all your music, and get rechargeable batteries and an adapter so you don't have to buy new batteries all the time.  they're so small, light and portable, and still can carry dozens of CDs worth of music, which is all i need

Thanks, Kiwi!

I just bought the 799 (1gb) and I'm trying to get into the package right now.  I am sure I will love it
