Non-Shoppers Road Call! Weekend 7/29
Permalink Closed

Thought I would start early again this weekend. I did some shopping this week, but I am happy about my purchases because I really thought about them and expensed them well. I have been working with this spreadsheet I created to keep track of my true necessities. I did buy a bag this week, only because I knew it would be out of stock by the time I will be purchasing other fall things. I also bought a pair of sneakers, which I needed and used my Ebay earnings to buy. (Geez I feel like I should be posting "weekend shopping" instead).

But still strongly saying no to clothes, shoes, and especially my bad habit of impulse beauty products. It's getting a little tougher because all the beautiful fall stuff is coming out, but I have to slap myself because most of this week felt like 100!

Anyway good luck this weekend girls!

I bought a sweater- I love it and have been thinking about it for weeks so i figured i should snatch it up before the Nordstrom sale ends. So that and an pera ticket and I'm done for the weekend.

Nothing for me, except lunch out today b/c it was a co-worker's last day.  I'm planning to buy the earrings that I wanted on Monday, but so far, that's it.  I may try to stick to this shopping ban for a longer time period.

Nothing for me - thank god. But it's not really an option at this point. Traveling has made the shopping ban a necessity. All my pennies are going to my cc at this point!

Nothing for me either, even tho' I will be stopping by Payless to SEE if I like those mules I posted from yesterday. When I read the desc. on the website, it said NAVY/blue, so I don't KNOW what they look like in person, so I'm hoping I won't like them, LOL, then I can stay on this ban a while longer.

hey girls, so i feel like i did kinda poorly this week, but almost everything was necessities:

monday: DV tape ($8) for my verbal presentation

wednesday: doctor copay ($15), salsa class w/ Lilykind ($5), makeup modelling for sebastian (-$50)

thursday: makeup modelling again (-$50), toiletries from walmart ($20), pizza w/ coworkers ($4), resisted drink at club (priceless!!)

friday: payday & still resisted lunch w/ coworkers - 20% off curry restaurant!!  (again, priceless!)

this weekend tho is gonna be a killer, my bff just moved back home from colorado & we r gonna live it up this weekend!  i'll try & not buy any drinks for myself so i'll only be spending money on cover, also, i gotta buy my bday outfit, but that is a planned purchase.  i think i'm gonna take the week off (sat - sat) since i'm going to vegas & having the bday party that i need to prepare for.  then i'll get back on the ban sunday & i'll make $200 that day modelling for sebastian again!

I spent money on

  • bus fare (unavoidable $10)
  • salsa dancing ($5...good excercise...not giving up)
  • Thai food ($7...weekly habit...seems rather evil to give up this)
  • Corner Bakery ($17.50...long story short my BF was an hour late to our dinner date with a friend so I had to pay)
  • two Fruit and Yogurt parfaits and a small McD's fries because I was craving them ($4 total)

I guess the eating out is a bit excessive considering I'm trying to save money, but I don't know.

But on the bright side...no clothes, no desire to buy anything...it's too warm here to think about fall and in all reality I shouldn't start Fall shopping until November-ish (around the time my debt will be paid off)

EDIT: I forgot to confess to getting a snack after salsa dancing...that was $8...geez these little "I'm hungry" bursts sure do kill me!!!!

Let me jump in on this shopper's ban too. I spent a small fortune on vacation but only bought jewelery and some Xmas presents while I was away in Europe.

I need to save in a big way! My 14 yr old is starting a private HS prep school in a month, need school supplies and uniforms, etc.

Plus I am planning another trip to So. America next year and Disney around Christmas.

That does not stop me from craving an entire new Fall wardrobe!

So far...the only things I have bought for myself (besides any necessities, and even those haven't been an issue b/c we're pretty stocked up on that stuff for now) is jewelry! Funny how I still sneak in the shopping (my ban is no shoes, handbags, or clothing) - I am a jewelry designer and so usually don't buy much other jewelry, but lately there have been some things that I either can't make (that's the main rule for me or DH buying jewelry - if I don't have the skillset to do it myself), or it's less expensive/time consuming/frustrating for me to buy instead. So...I've bought a few pieces (nothing over $30), and it all comes out of my biz account, so the household hasn't taken the hit anyway.

But 8/1...I'm ready to get to DSW (which I have studiously avoided, even though I have a GC burning a hole in my pocket), and some other places where I know I would buy if I visited during this last month. I'm ready for August!

Nothing for the kid this wkd except for  a Jane Magazine.Evreything looks so much more tempting now that I'm on the ban...........Only one more week, though. My ban was originally suppose to go until 8/15 but I have to get to the Met before the Chanel exhibit closes, and  there is a poster there I want.Plus Banana's Friends and Family starts Friday, and I have to get fall work clothes underway whenever I can hop on a sale or  good deal.

Looks like the rest of you girls did well.

If you looked at the weekend shopping thread you know that I COMPLETELY broke my ban (planned though). My family was in from out of town & we shopped for 3 days straight, but I have to say it was a different shopping experience. #1, I had saved my $$ from my ban & knew it was there to spend. #2, I had my fall wish list & although I did buy stuff that wasn't on there, my focus was on that list. I bought 4 things from my list (a bronze purse, gold shoes, cardigan different than I would usually buy, gold earrings) & I passed up TONS of stuff I would have normally gotten. #3, My mom bought lots of my stuff plus gave me $$ so I think I nearly broke even to be honest.

The ban has changed my shopping focus & I loved having guilt free money to spend, so I'm hopping back on the bandwagon. I know I won't stay on it 100% through all of August, but I like focusing on my fall wish list & the pride I feel leaving a store without a bunch of cheap crap I don't need!!! It's good.

No shopping for me this week, yay! But I was really busy, and distracted myself with books and music. I attended a free Stravinsky concert   I made a clothes spreadsheet and it seems like I don't need anything big for fall (provided I can lose the extra lbs I gained recently, so my good clothes fit).

Speaking as someone who has occasionally fallen off the wagon, I do have to say that making a decision to not spend money on useless stuff really does change your shopping focus! It alters the way I look at spending. I dont think I fell too heavily. I seem to have spent a lot on groceries but I guess that is better than spending more on dining out. I bought two pair of very cute undies(2.50 each-big sale) and a shirt.. But it is really cute........Teal with a slight empire waist and teal sparkly sequins around the waist. I have worn it to work and got compliments all over the place and that my friends is worth the utter shame of breaking the ban. Oh, the shirt was 15.00. Okay, okay, since we are confessing(or I am) I also hit a great thrift store with my newly thrift obsessed friend. I found a dozen cute items, including a pair of wooden heeled leather clogs, which is something I have always wanted, and a great pair of Banana Republic trousers(plaid-ish)which I know will be worn many times in the fall. So I spent 34.00 there. Whew, confession is good for the soul

I'm curious about this clothes spreadsheet - i have tried this before & crash & burn so I'm open for suggestions. For example, do you just list the items you have & categorize them by tops, bottoms, shoes, handbags, etc? Or do you put together outfits? I'd really like some suggestions or I'd like to see an example if you don't mind sharing....
