baby names

not for me!  my best friend of forever is pregnant with her first child, a boy, and is trying to decide on a name.  she has time, she isn't due until late december or january...the details:

it's a boy.  the name cannot be:  common, the name of someone famous' child (unless it's someone semi-famous who isn't all over the news/gossip), boring.  to give you an idea, names she's currently liking are ocean and jedi (she's not a star wars fan at all, and thinks that if people only think of that when they hear the name they're severely lacking in creativity.)  i'm not crazy about jedi (guess i'm in the "lacking" category), so i want to find something better.  she likes celestial, spiritual names...i suggested "big dipper" but i don't think she's feeling it.

about the mom:  26, gorgeous, into fashion and modeling, dream husband trent reznor.  she'll basically be doing this alone, she and the dad had been together for years but broke up before she found out she was pregnant and she has no desire to be with him, though he will be involved in the child's life.

please help me save this child from being named jedi!

Saturn, Zeus, Apollo, Neptune, Orion, Sirius, Ursa (as opposed to Big Dipper), Polaris, Castor, Perseus?

i love apollo as suggested by sweatergirl (reminds me of that cutie pie speed skater, apollo ono from the olymics) anyway...

... my one an only suggestion is kai (i belive it is the hawaiian word for ocean) i wanted to name my own son kai in the worst way but my husband just wasn't having any of it.

jedi is actually a really cool name on it's own... but people WILL make that association with star wars which makes it less than good... for a middle name, maybe?

It's a good thing "Pilot Inspektor" was already used by a celebrity...

I really like hotcocoa's suggestion of Kai.

thanks girls.  keep 'em coming!

i especially like zeb (i have a thing for z's, i think), and kai.  i actually suggested kai at some point, because she was born in hawaii and lived there for three years, and her biological father is hawaiian...i think i'll mention it again.

oh and theotherjess - who the heck named their poor child pilot inspektor?

haha, Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor. Shannon Sossamon (remember her from A Knights Tale with Heath Leger?) named her child Audio Science. The guy from Penn and Teller (the one who does all the talking) named his daughter Moxie CrimeFighter. Charming.
