The bf threw me for a loop w/this one...

so my bf's friend (whom i've never met) is coming in town with his wife and their 2 yr. old daughter for his 30th b-day.  i was told this today and the party is sat., so needless to say i wasn't given much notice.  anyway, it's at this restuarant called Gibson's (for those who aren't from chicago, it's a touristy steakhouse like a smith and wolensky's (sp?), capital grille type of place).  from what i hear, which hasn't been much, his friend's wife has rented the upstairs party room.  that being said, i will be the youngest by far (23 vs. 30's), so i'm stressing a bit about what to wear.  since i don't have a ton of time (i work friday, and don't want to shop sat. (more of a pedicure, go to the gym plan for sat.), i was wondering if you ladies think that this outfit would work....

+ tight dark denim jeans, and with gold heels and nice gold jewelry.  i would wear the wrap just hanging down and mine isn't cropped.

i seriously have like $300 worth of dry-cleaning at the dry-cleaners so i have no pants right now, and i don't want to wear any skirts or dresses, or sleeveless since i look like i've been beaten (still bruised from the bike incident), so i'm SUPER RESTRICTED.  i know it's probably not ideal, but it's all i can think of to wear.  do you ladies have any other suggestions???  can i get by with it?

Hmm...I don't know but that outfit seems a little trendy and young with that wierd wrap top if you don't want to be seen as a kid at the table.

i think its cute... plus it will cover all the areas from your accident.

how long is the dress on you?  it is pretty long on the model and i think with jeans that might look a little funny... i think to get away with dresses with jeans/pants you have to have the right hem length on the dress.

can you just do the jeans, wrap top (with some time of sleeveless shirt underneath) and your heels?  or would that be too casual?

First, I don't personally think that dress works over jeans? Maybe I'd have to see it, but I don't think it would look right from the pics you posted.

I actually think the long sleeves in the middle of summer will get you more weird looks than wearing something short-sleeved or sleeveless. It's not like your BF beat you up, so maybe you go with some bruises...it might not be pretty but it's just what happened to you. I'd consider a tank - shrug or tank-cardi combination maybe, then you can remove the outer layer if it's warm or you feel more comfortable, but that top you posted looks more winter-y to me.

The whole outfit (I really can't see the wrap+the dress+the jeans working?) seems like a "trying too hard" outfit (sorry), esp. if you will be the youngest there.

My suggestion is, take a deep breath and go back to your closet...look for something classic and not as trendy...and *enjoy* the fact that you will be significantly younger than most everyone there. The men will love you and the women will be envious, no matter what you wear! You're in a prime position. *s*

If you're set on those items I would wear one OR the other. Either the dress with sandals and a shrug (if you feel like you need to cover your arms) OR the wrap top with jeans. I think everything together would just be too much clothing at once.

Also, IMO anything looks hot when paired with nice jeans and heels...so do you have any other tops in your closet you could try? Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the bruises. If anybody asks, just tell them you were in a car accident...people will understand.

it's funny cuz i was getting a check up about the accident, and i heard the nurses whispering in the hall about whether or not they should give me a domestic violence pamphlet!!!

so needless to say, i'm really self-conscious about them, and because i feel like it's what people DON'T say that makes me feel so self-conscious (the looks that my bf and i have gotten cuz they are BAD bruises.)

anyways, i've decided to go with the top and white pants.  i'll bring a light-weight marc jacobs denim jacket (cuz i always get cold in restaurants) and deal with the stares on my arms.  thanks for the input, as i was reading the responses, i was super impressed with all the suggestions, cuz all of them were observations that i had also made while trying to make the outfit work.  i've never worn the dress and i felt like it's now or never since the summer is ending, that's why i was kinda "set" on wearing this particular outfit.

THANKS FOR NOT LETTING ME DOWN!!-AGAIN!!!
