Did you mention somewhere that you would like to read more of the classics? I would too. Is there one in particular you would like to start with? It is great to have someone to discuss with...I have quite a few sitting on my shelf just waiting to be read and we also have a great second hand bookstore. So, I would be willing to read just about anything. Right now I am reading Harry Potter and my book club meets next Wednesday. They usually don't read anything too heavy, so after Harry I would be all set.

Tell me what you have on your shelf & I'll compare, though I doubt I have any! I'd love to figure out what to read & maybe get some people who have already read & loves the book to join in & comment - this could be fun!

Let's maybe make a little list & we'll figure out what to start with - I really don't care, anyone with suggestions is welcome to comment too. Maybe you could change the title to book club ideas or something similar? If we get a bunch of people interested we could get a list together, do a poll & vote?

Hmm I'm not sure what you want to read but I just started Pride and Prejudice again.  I also have a few other austen books, bronte books, and hemmingway.

i highly recommend jane eyre by bronte. also, although i hated it in high school, i recommend wuthering heights as well, the scenes between catherine and heathcliff are intense~

Not sure how long you want to be reading but I loved Vanity Fair.  It took me months to read though. Much better than the movie version that came out last year.

I'd love to join too!  I read a ton, but I've always focused on Latin American literature, so I could stand to read a few more of the classics.  I love the idea of an ST bookclub!

I am excited about this!! A couple books I have here that I haven't read yet:

Vanity Fair
Wuthering Heights
Shirley-Charlotte Bronte
Scenes of Clerical Life-George Eliot

I am open to other suggestions! I wouldn't mind rereading Pride and Prejudice. Oh. I also have a couple Dickens I haven't read. Oh, and Emma. Anyone have something they are burning to read??

I've had company since thurs so i've been out of the loop - I personally have always wanted to read pride & prejudice - but I don't want to be bossy or anything (my real life friends would laugh at that I'm sure). For some reason Wuthering Heights has my interest too - intense scenes perhaps? - although I think i read that in high school I know my perspective would be different. What do you girls think?

Okay, so we have a couple of yeses for Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights. lsubatgirl, you are already reading P+P so you could join in on the discussion or we could wait until you are done and start Wuthering Heights, hmmmm.....Does anyone else have something in mind? I am still reading Harry Potter- an 11 year old recently laughed at me for only being part way through the book. He said he read it in only a few days. He made me feel simple. And then he wanted me to prove I was actually reading the book so he asked me what Slughorn's first name was. I could not remember so I quickly threw out other details to convince him...but I digress. So. Anyone else??

I actually just got the very first HP book, I've never read them. I also got Sophia Kinsella's (shopaholic series) new book the Undomestic Goddess shipped on Friday, so I need to read it really quick before I get into something heavy in the book club!!!

I am up for anything though, those 2 have my interest peaked again but I am really open - I like most stuff. They were just suggestions!

Count me in! I've read pretty much everything everyone's suggested but I'm up for revisiting the good ones. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Wuthering Heights (just too, eh, Bronte for me I suppose) but I'll sacrifice for the good of the ST book club.

i'm in too!  i read a lot of the books mentioned in hs, but i hardly remember a thing about them, and i feel like i'd enjoy them more now that i have an "adult" (haha) perspective on the world.


i don't care what's first or anything...just tell me what to read!

I would love to join in. I like to read when I get into bed at night, it's better then watching my hubby play PS2 (who's idea was it to have that thing in our room, I don't know!!)

We had to read Jane Ayre and others in HS, but not Pride and Prej. Never read it in College either and I even took some creative writing and lit classes. I would love to read it. That and Vanity Fair, but it sounds like the group is leaning towards Pride and Prej.

Hey, laken1, you decide!! You were the inspiration for this thread! Or we could vote. Maybe that is more democratic. Let's come up with the list. I'll start it:

Pride and Prejudice-even though many of us have read it , it is a great story, the opening line is killer, and after we are done we could all watch the BBC production, yay for Colin Firth in breeches.

Wuthering Heights-this may be the only way for me to commit to this one. I have always wanted to read it, and this group would inspire me.

okay, anyone have a couple more to add and we could vote?

Ok, i did a voting poll - yeah, I didn't want to pick, I know i'm kinda bossy, but that's just too much responsibility!!

Halleybird, I really hope you are planning to be somewhat involved - we need a "teacher" i think!! LOL - although I know we are all bright women & can come up with something.

I will keep up with everyone's suggestions & add them to the "list" next time.
