well here's some ways to pass the time...

you could play with the clothes already in your closet to find outfits that you haven't thought of before, find out what still fits, put the outcasts on ebay (along with your soul )

same with makeup - try some new looks to see what works on you and what doesn't - i know there are a ton of sites with crazy makeup looks (my sister likes to look at them), and some are really neat but look like a lot of work (for me, at least) - you could practice up on some that you like and then be ready to dazzle on your next big night out!

read, exercise (i see you're halfway to your weightloss goal - that's awesome!), watch crappy tv that you won't be able to enjoy once classes start back up....

I would definitely avoid going to the mall at all costs! When I'm in need of money, I clean out my closet and instead of giving the clothes to good will (I know I should be doing that) I sell them on eBay for a pretty penny. Every bit counts!

More importantly, where are you getting Japanese Straightening for $150? I've never seen it cheaper than $200!

ya i agree... sooo cheap!! do u know people who have had it done at this place before? i've heard it can be VERY damaging if done wrong, or even if done right & u continue to keep it up. just be aware is all i'm saying... and good luck on ur ban, be sure to join us friday to prepare for the weekend!

Maybe you could learn to sew??? That way you could re-invent your existing clothes. Couldn't you get a part time job during school? In retail or something?

Why don't you teach yourself something new? Like knitting! I decided to teach myself how to knit this spring and its not too hard. And its kind of addicting too, so you could keep yourself away from the mall that way and still have some cool scarves and stuff come fall!

Reading is always a good way to pass the time too without spending a ton.

I've gotten my hair japanese straightened before at this place, and they do a good job. I get it done at a place in Queens, NY.

I'm trying to continue to exercise, but its really hard to jog when its SO hot outside! Otherwise, I'm starting the southbeach diet, so maybe some of my time can be spent reading the book and learning about it.

I might start knitting. My mother is very very good at it, so she could teach me!

I really wouldnt have time for a part-time job at school, but I will be doing "quickie-jobs." It's one time jobs such as catering or babysitting, and its a conveniet way to make 50-80 dollars in a day.

I know how you are feeling. I haven't been having the most interesting summer either. I also didn't work which has made my income go down too. Some suggestions:

Sell books and CDs on Half.com (same as ebay but no listing fees, can stay up forever, etc)

Fill out surveys online. I found a few sites that pay between $2 and $5 each (takes like 6 weeks to get paid through paypal but still $2 here and there add up)

Check out books at the Library - its free and you can read whatever you want without having to pay for it.

Hobbies are great. I have a ton of pictures sitting around so after I move I'm going to start scrapbooking and putting them in albums I already have.

When you get back to school you can go to the gym. That doesn't help now but it will help then.

I'll second the recommendation for your local library. In addition to lots of books on all sorts of topics (including clothing, beauty, and home decor), they also have CDs and DVDs you can borrow for free (usually a for between a day and a week - watch that you don't run up any late fees!).

Also, check out the library for events, and look at local bookstores to see if they have any interesting authors coming by for a reading.

What is Japanese straightening? If I was going to be cash strapped, I wouldn't spend money on my hair! Unless the stuff your selling on ebay is complete trash, your auctions may need some tweaking. You can ask people in ebays discussion boards, they are very helpful. The number one important thing is auction title. Second gallery picture. I usually skip over ones that don't have a picture, since I don't like to waste time clicking into the auction just to see junk when time matters. That only begins to cover what makes a good auction. They even sell books on this topic.

Well, maybe you're misunderstanding me. Yes, I'm strapped for cash-- but I don't have bills to pay. The money I make is strictly for recreational use, so that I don't have to ask my parents for money for those types of purchases. I can use my money to buy clothes, or go out, buy junk food, beauty products, etc. In my opinion, I think getting hair japanesed straightened is a good way to spend recreational money because its a purchased that gives you about 6 months of perfect hair! I mean, no blowdrying, no ironing, just shower and go! I think hair is one of the biggest aspects that can make you look great or not-so-great. Its true, this whole summer I've been wearing my hair up, because it doesnt look good curly. And the truth is that I've felt really frumpy and just unattractive.

Anyway, you might think its silly to complain about money when you don't have anything serious to pay for-- but as a college student, it feels like your life consists of 50% school work, and 50% recreation. well... maybe 40% school work,

And I've been selling stuff on ebay, and I've done pretty well so far. For a newbie, at least.

i used to do the same thing you did when i worked over the summer during college. i would "think" i had all this money and then had about 3 weeks to save up for an entire semester (or year sometimes) of spending money! eek!

def. do the japanese straightening- you're right- your hair is a great asset! of course, i shouldn't be the one enabling you for this b/c i go to my salon every 4 weeks for color/highlights....

I still don't know what japanese straightening is! Is it like a straight perm? That would be something I would consider doing if it's what I think it is! I hate how my hair dries all poofy and wavy. Even my flat iron doesn't get all the wave out.
