Do you have a particular religion or spiritual philosophy that you identify with? Not really. I'm not religious but I do try to live by my own set of ethics and principles, some of which are illustrated in religious teachings. For instance, I think Jesus was a cool person. He and I could probably get along in the here and now (and yes, I think he would be in a rock band if he was alive today - I've had many discussions about this topic over time and this is my conclusion). I'm also into Buddha and all the jazz he had to say (not all but some). But the same can be said of Ghandi and he's not a religious figure. I do strongly believe in karma though. I firmly believe that you get out of this world what you put into it. That's why bad stuff happens to negative people and good stuff happens to positive people. It's a constant struggle to do the right/nice thing and I think a strong belief in karma helps to clarify those decisions.

If you were a tree, what type of tree would you be? Beats me. I never thought about what kind of tree I'd be. Maybe an apple tree. I could tempt all the people with my nice, shiny apples. But I'd rather be a grapevine in a famous vineyard. That would be the posh life, wouldn't it?

Whats the best vacation you have ever been on? Probably last December when I went to NYC. I spent a whole day at the Met all by myself and it was one of the most moving experiences I've ever had. (I'm a Van Gogh whore and I spent hours in the Van Gogh room.) It was amazing. And I walked around Central Park and found my way through the city without anyone else's help. It was great. I could definitely live in that city.

What activities did you participate in in High School? Oh god, now you're going to see my inner geek aren't you? I was in band (I know). I was in the marching band (I was drum major for two years and played percussion the other two years), I was in the symphonic band (I was a killer flute player, if I do say so myself ), and I was in the jazz band (I was a so-so sax player). I was in drama (I had the lead in the one-act play and won lots of awards my senior year - yes I'm bragging but I just told y'all I was in band!, I was in musicals and sang decently - I've lost it all now, and I was the assistant director for one of our biggest shows). I actually almost went to college on some theatre scholarships but ended up changing my mind at the last minute. I was some kind of officer or something in Student Council, I was in the Beta Club (high gpa club), I did some speech/debate activities, and some UIL academic contests. There were lots of other small things but I can't remember them right now. If there was an organization in high school that didn't involve sports (our high school was really, really bad at sports) I was probably in it. Wow. I haven't felt this dorky since high school!!

Blubirde, I find you to be so fascinating and funny.

What were you like as a child?

What is your greatest passion?

I know you're a lawyer right? So what made you choose that profession?

Thanks gypsyfreak! I believe myself to be extremely fascinating and funny, too. Unfortunately I've been told by those that know me better than I do that I'm neither. Fascinating nor funny. What are you gonna do?

What were you like as a child? I was talkative. My mom used to tell me that every bad thing that happened to me (hiccups, falling down, etc.) was because I talked too much. I still think that's funny. I was also very, very inquisitive. My grandfather would get so mad at me that he would only answer questions with "why" so he could show me what it was like. I used to tell my family that if they just shared their "brains" with me, I would know as much as they did and wouldn't have to ask as many questions. My favorite pastime was sitting in my front yard in a bed of clovers looking for a four-leaf clover (I never found one) and listening to music on my pink radio. Most likely Debbie Gibson or Bon Jovi. They could be switched at will. ; ) And I loved to ride my bike with my friends to the local library in the summer where it was super dark and cold (gotta love window ac) and read books on obscure topics. We even tried to sneak into the "adult" area where they kept the romance novels. Good times.

Oh and here's an interesting fashion tidbit about my childhood: For a few years there, every dress I wore was accompanied by a petticoat. I refused to wear a skirt without the huge, bouncing petticoat under it. It was awesome. And I was a bit of a tomboy but I also loved my shoes. I never wore anything other than black, patent-leather Mary Janes. I'd climb trees in them and everything. They were slippery little bastards.

What is your greatest passion? I don't know if I have one. Maybe art. I get a bit crazy when I see great art. It makes my knees weak when I know I'm in the presence of something amazing. I'm also really passionate about people. The world in general, I mean. Which leads me into your next question...

I know you're a lawyer right? So what made you choose that profession? My passion for helping people. I thought I'd be a lawyer and change the world. That was my plan anyway. I figured it was the best way to help out those less fortunate than me, and maybe it is, but it doesn't feel like it day in and day out at my job. I suppose I help some people but I don't think it's the kind of change I had in mind. My goal is to work at the ACLU or NOW or something similar. We'll see if it ever happens. : )

1)  Tell us about your first boyfriend...Was he in the band with you?

2)  What is your favorite movie?

3)  What is your favorite thing to do on a weekend when you have nothing planned?

What's your theme song? Ah! I've been waiting for this question. Do I have a theme song? Do I have a theme song? Why yes, Lisa, I do. Thank you for asking. It's cheesy but I love it. One Girl Revolution by Superchic(k). Here are the lyrics for those of you that aren't familiar:

I wear a disguise
I'm not just your average jane
The super doesn't stand for model
But that doesn't mean I'm plain
If all you see is how I look
You miss the superchick within
And I christen you titanic underestimate and swim
I've got the rifle gonna be myself
(CHORUS)
I'll be everything that I want to be
I am confidence in insecurity
I am a voice yet waiting to be heard
I'll shoot the shot bang that you hear round the world
I'm a one girl revolution
Some people see the revolution but most only see the girl
I can lose my hard earned freedom in my fear defines my world
I declare my independence from the critics and their stones
I can find my revolution I can learn to stand alone...

Blubirde....do you have any dirtly little secrets.... Why yes I do. Funny you should ask. Sometimes, if I invite a boy over, I'll turn down the ac just a tad so they'll be cold and want to cuddle. One time, in law school, this professor asked all the same questions, year after year on his final exam. I thought I'd be clever and take a crib sheet in the exam with me and if I got stuck and couldn't remember an answer for one part, I'd go to the bathroom and look it up. So here's me, trotting to the bathroom in the middle of the exam. Except I was so nervous and afraid that my hands shook too much and my eyes couldn't focus on the crib sheet. So I went to all that trouble for no reason. I wasn't physically able to cheat. Damnit. I'm not sure if I got karma points given or taken away for that one. Another dirty little secret... I've had an unintentional one night stand. How sad is that? Only in retrospect do I realize it was a one-night stand. I didn't intend it to be but damn that tequila and those good kisses... (I intended it to be a more serious engagement but you see what happens with intentions don't you? - path paved to hell and all.) Sometimes, and this is my dirtiest little secret, if I know a weekend night is coming up and I have nothing planned, I'll go to a local mexican fast-food place and get this HUGE thing of nachos to eat all night long. And by the end of the night I'll be so full that I'll want to die. But yet I love them and I'd do it all the time if I wouldn't turn into a blimp because of it.

What is the one thing that you have done that you are the most proud of? the one thing you have the most regret for? Proud - There are two moments. 1) making it through law school and the bar. Those were the most awful times I've ever had and I'm so happy I made it through. 2) being there for my friend who went through major depression. I thought I couldn't help her and I was hesitant to be there for her (it seemed like a lot of responsibility), but I decided to take a chance and gave her my all. And I like to think I helped (I won't go into details) and we're as close now as two people can be - that aren't sleeping together.

Most regret for - one night I invited a boy over when I shouldn't have (I should have known better) and it ended up being a pretty awful night. (nothing serious happened but it definitely shook me.) I'd take that night back if I could, for sure.

1)  Tell us about your first boyfriend...Was he in the band with you?   My first boyfriend was in band - how'd you know? He was older and I thought he was so cool and I was very smitten with him. He had long hair and was into the whole grunge scene. (And did I mention he'd been in jail before? ) I thought he was sooo dreamy. I was such a good girl and he was baaaddd so of course I was in loove. And he was excellent at the sex. Oh yes, he was. But then he wanted me to wear his ring so I had to dump him. What can I say? Don't reign me in.

2)  What is your favorite movie? I have tons. Garden State, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Donnie Darko, Shakespeare in Love, Bridget Jones' Diary, Empire Records, Pump Up the Volume, Kill Bill (both), LOTR (all three), etc. I love David Lynch and John Waters and everything by them.

3)  What is your favorite thing to do on a weekend when you have nothing planned? Go to the vintage stores in my 'hood and/or some cool antique stores to look for inspiration. Then I'll usually go to a craft/art store and stare at the canvas and paint sections and wait for my ideas to hit. And if I don't have any money (more likely than not), I'll go the bookstore and read magazines, read books, and listen to cds. Man, I need one of these weekends soon!

Ah! I didn't know anyone else on this board lived in ATX - how cool is that?

Favorite Restaurant Depends. For nice places I like Trulucks (downtown) and Carmelo's - soooo yummy. Sushi - Mushashino (I know I'm killing the spelling there). Hangover food - Shady Grove - love their veggie burgers, although Hut's has great veggie burgers too. But my favorite all-around restaurant is Vivo's on Manor - do you know it? It rocks. It's got great food, a prickly pear margarita that will knock you on your ass first one, and an awesome patio with tons of plants and misters AND they give you roses when you leave. It's lovely and wonderful.

Work I work for the State. Nothing spectacular. My main focus is criminal law although we do other stuff also (it's just what I like). My job is okay. It's not worth all the crap for as little money as we get paid (not all lawyers make the bucks - just ask, i'll tell ya!) I'd rather work for a non-profit and somehow be independently wealthy, all at the same time. Unfortunately I think that requires a bit of lottery winnings and I don't play the lottery.

And yeah, it's okay. Although I suppose the key to that question is: if you won a million dollars, would you quit? And the answer is yes, in a heartbeat. I probably wouldn't even give a two-weeks notice. I'd still want to work but not there and maybe not even doing law. I'm about to do a pro-bono will for a woman so maybe I'll like that. We'll see...

LOL I've heard that Hut's (downtown) has some GREAT burgers, I'm gonna have to get myself there one day! LOL And another thing like me, I don't play the lotto, but would LOVE to win it, but of course, you gotta play!
