Stay Strong Non-Shoppers! Weekend 7/22
Permalink Closed

thought I would post early! So many tempting things this week! Girlshop code, Sigerson sale, temptations at every corner!!!!!!

But I do feel a new perspective on shopping coming on that is really refreshing. I think I've definitely got a handle on my impulse shopping and definitely do put alot more thought into purchases that I want.

I did break the ban for this:

It's a Jonathan Adler Advent calendar from Hold Everything. I wanted it since last Xmas when it was originally $150. I have been watching go on sale since Xmas, and finally it was $24 with free shipping... so I couldn't resist.

I also bought my bf an anniversary present, it's our 4 year (can't believe it's been so long). But I spent less than $40 (though our pre-set limit was $20)!

Tonight I'll be buying groceries and tomorrow we're going to a contemporary sculpture park to picnic.

Here is the link to it in case you guys are interested Storm King Art Center

Keep up the good work everyone!

Funny, me too! I was just thinking about this yesterday - I work from home, so sometimes as a break / reward I will go browse the stores...and of course, pretty regularly making impulse purchases. Well, I haven't been since 7/1 and what I've found myself doing instead, is making outfits from out of my closet, and thinking long and hard about what I want for fall once my ban is up. I've really been moving toward better quality (more expensive) items, rather than the mid-level stuff I normally buy, and I think the ban has helped me clarify that. Of course, staple items like beaters & etc. will still be from ON or Target or somewhere like that, but I'm willing to spend less often if I know I am holding out for the good stuff. *s*

The only bad thing is that the Nordie's sale ends 8/1...I wonder if I can make a deal w/my husband to *buy* on 7/31...if he'll consider that close enough. I know I do LOL.

WOW! Happy 4-yr. anniv. to you!! That's great. I am still holding out on my shopping ban, even THO' I posted some CUTE choc. brown boots in the shopping thread that I'm NOT going to buy, but sure want to! LOL I see what you mean also about impulse buying, b/c I really think I did a LOT of that!! LOL I was looking thru some of my clothes, and some of the things I brought, well, I don't even like them anymore. So this ban has taught me a thing or two! LOL My honey and I will be going to the Texas Heatwave Car & Truck show/event tomorrow, but we'll go hotel hopping tonight, to see what cars/trucks came into town, should be exciting! LOL NO SHOPPING!!

So far, so good.  I've really been reigning in my shopping (not working in retail has helped tremendously--it's funny how when you stare at something day in and day out that you start to like it even though you detested it when it first came in the store).  Only two more weeks to go and if I make it, I will have only bought one thing in the past month (the ring that I replaced).  That's a record for me!  Keep the faith, my sisters!

hello ladies!  we'll i've been pretty good this week, only spent $9 for a salsa class (which i won't be doing again for a while cuz it was too advanced, so next week i'll only spend $5 on salsa).  i also spent $17 on my olay face cloths, but i had my friend pick them up from costco so i got a FOUR MONTH SUPPLY for that price!!  plus it was a necessity so i'm justified in that purchase.  aside from that, i spent about $25 on groceries (shopping once a week instead of once every two weeks is working very well cuz i only buy exactly what i will need for that week), $4 for parking at the university i will be attending in the fall (had an advisement appt.), and that's it!

as for the weekend, this is gonna be a toughie...  all of my coworkers (including a hot former coworker) are going out tonight & we r gonna grab dinner, possibly drinks & then go bowling.  i actually forgot to take money out of the ATM on the way to work, but i think i'll take out $40 & w/ the $7 i already have i'll try as hard as i can to save one of those twenties.  the rest of the weekend should be okay cuz i have TONS of hw so i'll be locked up in the office gettting it all done.  i'll take a short break for a date saturday, but that won't involve any of my cash.

Well this week the only stuff I got was a purple collinder from WholeFoods from the bf as a study present and a spin and store from my mom for my apt.  I went to the mall yesterday and walked out empty handed.  It was so hard but I'm making it!

I haven't spend any money this week. BUT I got a call for an interview on Monday and I have nothing at all to wear (the only two suits that fit me are tweed and very trendy), so I'm gonna have to buy one. What a boring thing to break ban for.

edit: nevermind. I'm just not going to wear a suit. I really don't care- its a bajillion degree anyway. Skirt and blouse should be good enough- especially since I found out its just a staffing agency anyway. A new suit will have to be on my post ban list though.

I was sorta good all week until yesterday.  I had store credit @ two local boutiques, so I got some necklaces that I'd been craving for along w/a pair of basic khakis & hope those don't count.  Other than that, I've been good & am back on the ban.

I went to the mall yesterday and didn't buy a single thing! I really want these Dark Denim MJ jeans, (on sale for $85!!). But I resisted! I think once I got over my first hurdle on the ban I can resist until fall.

Congrats dot on your 4 yr anniversary! (BF and I have our 4 yr. in September...)

Hmmmmmmm...I think I did okay...but I feel really guilty about the neccessary expenses. I spent $46 on dry cleaning! It was only for one dress, two pairs of pants, and two sweaters! WTF? Next time BF and I go to Costco, I think we'll be picking up Dryel and I'm just gonna handwash everything else. Plus I ate out once with a friend of mine...her neighbors just died in the Costa Rica plane accident this past weekend so I wanted to cheer her up. I also did my one weekly splurge at my favorite Thai restaurant. Other than those things, I only spent money on bus fare. I may go shopping today on my lunch hour, but only to scope now fall stuff IRL. I don't plan on buying anything until the cc debt is out the window.

I discovered that I am seriously lacking in some basic items in my closet (like I own only one pair of heels that work with my three pairs of black work pants!) and I will defintely need to do a closet rebuilding when my ban is over. I've weeded out so much stuff I don't wear and I realize how bad some of my impulse purchases are. They really eat away at my money...ugh!

BF and I are going to see movies and clean up the apartments...maybe we'll go on dates and act all cute and stuff. Since the ban started, we've been spending more time together.

Seeing my checking account be where it was this week was absolutely exhilarating.

I've been so good! I haven't shopped since the end of June. I'm starting to crave it though. Must stay strong!

BTW my bf and I are celebrating our 6 year anniversary on July 31. We aren't doing presents this year b/c we are getting a new tv.

Ok, i caved this week & bought 2 shrugs - but they only totaled $26 & I have a $20 a week allowance that I haven't spent, so I am going to lock myself in the house this weekend!! LOL

Well, not really, we are have a "date" day tomorrow - movie, lunch, movie - if we can stand 2 movies in one day. I want to see War of the Worlds & I MUST see Charlie & the Choc Factory.

When I DID shop last, I had myself on a $30.00/wk. spending budget (not much, but I pretty much have everything I need/want, so...), and I did pretty good. I may have went over once or twice, but for the most part it DID work out WELL for me. LOL I can't wait to start shopping again!!! LOL

I bought a few things earlier in the week.  One of my favorite stores is closing and they have everything marked WAY down, some things as low as 80% off.  I actually did about 1/2 my Christmas shopping, and only bought one thing for myself.  I figured it is okay, because I got some stuff that my sister and best friend are going to love for Christmas at really great prices.

I also have to buy a baby shower gift sometime this weekend.

Otherwise things are going fine and I don't expect to be out shopping this weekend.  I want to lose another 5lbs and I don't want to buy anymore clothes before then anyway cause I'll probably drop a pants size to reach that goal.

I am so proud of me!! Today we went shopping, cause it is cool at the mall and my purchases amounted to: Two bottles of spring water, some Luna bars and shampoo(I needed this). True, I went with the salon shampoo, but still........

By cool, I mean temperature, not like cool cause that is where all the cool kids hang out.

Girl splurge on the shampoo.  I've been using up hotel samples and my hair looks like crap.  Thank god all I'm doing is studying at home!!  I can't wait to buy real shampoo!

yay! I did really good this weekend- the only money I spent was $6 on a bottle of conditioner (ran out and I can't skip on it- bought a cheaper one than normal though), and $8 chip in for pizza while studying for a statistics final. Oh, and I gave a dollar to the homeless guy so he could buy a soda- he speciafically asked for change to buy a soda and it was SOOO hot out so I felt bad for him.

Uh...I was kinda bad. I spent $237 dollars.

$220 to initaite a membership at Equinox Fitness.

$8 on Coke and Jack at the work party from Friday night that got me wasted. (WTF at the price?!?!?!?!)

$9 on popcorn and cherry coke when BF and I went to see Fantastic Four. (see above...)

But none of this is clothing, right?
