Birth control pill screw up - thoughts?
Permalink Closed

So I dropped the last pill before my sugar pill this morning. I have NO clue as to where it went. I have searched high & low & can't find it. Since it is the last one right before my inactive pills - how big of a deal is that? I'm supposed to start Tuesday, so this would mean I'll probably start Monday which is fine, but does that completely screw up my cycle? Cause me to ovulate & have a baby I don't want??? LOL
Thoughts? Just call my doctor this am?
I use Tri-cyclen lo if that matters

I'm on ortho-tricyclen lo, too, and that happened to me last month (I just forgot to take it), anyway, if you have been religiously taking it for a while, that missing pill may only just make you period come a day or two earlier (it did for me). You shouldn't have any pregnancy worries, but I not a doctor, just giving you my experience with it. HTH.

If you go to their website it tells you what to do when you miss a pill during a certain week.  Hope that helps.  You just have to go to page three and it's under dosage and administration.

I think you'll be fine.I've done this a couple of times. It may have caused me to have my period one day earlier. But the next month it was fine, as long as I took my pills. Also I didn't get pregnant.

I agree with the other girls.  If you were going to miss a pill, you probably missed the least problem-causing one (if that makes sense).  If it were me just to be extra safe, I'd abstain until after my period (or at least use a back-up method) just in case that missed pill did happen to allow ovulation to occur.

I have done this numerous times. One time I actually went to my next pack because I had messed up pretty bad that month. And when you do that, you have a lot of extras in case you do it again!

i hate that!  they're so tiny, they're almost impossible to find.  i've found pills in some odd places while cleaning (i've dropped a few in my day).  it stinks, but it's nothing to worry about, especially since it's your last one before your sugar pills.

like the other girls said, you'll just get your period a day or two early.  it shouldn't be a big deal.

I think technically you are supposed to have an extra package on hand for when this happens (WTF? who does that?). Anyway, I agree with the others, but I'd use backup for a couple of weeks if you're really worried.

Honestly, don't worry about it if it is your last pill (before the placebos).  You are supposed to keep a back-up pack in case you lose your pack during any other time of your cycle, but it is okay if it is the last one.  I worked in a pharmacy dispensing birth control pills and this is what I always told patients with similar worries.

If you miss a pill in the middle of your cycle, the package insert has explicit directions on what to do.  It is a good idea to also use back-up protection for seven days afterward.
