Cleaning Makeup brushes...Poll

I use Brush-Out by Paula Dorf. I just spray it onto a round make-up remover pad and clean my brushes before each use. I am lazy to actually wash them in the sink so I found that this is the only way for me to clean them. And it's so easy and dries quickly so I can do it each time I use them. It has kept my brushes looking very nice!!

i use shampoo, but i feel like it wrecks my brushes. granted, they weren't very nice brushes to begin with, but still, the bristles seem to fall out more after i clean em.

what is this paula dorf stuff? how much? im intrigued!

I also use the Paula Dorf Brush-Out Bath. I think it was about $12 or $14 for a 4oz bottle. I bought it a while ago but you only have to use a little bit. I tend to clean my brushes about once a week or when my face starts breaking out from the greasies

Anyways, check Sephora that's where I got that Paul Dorf stuff

I just wanted to speak up for the yuckier girls - I hope I'm not alone. I MAYBE wash my brushes once a month? I don't put on makeup every day anymore, so it's not really that gross. When I do wash them, I use my regular face cleanser (mary kay timewise). I figure if it gets the makeup off my face & it's gentle enough for my skin, my brushes should be able to handle it. That is "official" cleaning, but anytime I use powder eyeshadw or blush, I do "brush" my wet towel with them to get off the obvious residue from the last color that I may have used. I do put my foundation on with sponges, so I rinse those pretty often or switch them out.

I know this is disgusting but I clean mine MAYBE once a year...ew...I know. I read somewhere that rubbing alcohol works great for those in between cleanings because it dries superfast.

I can't remember the last time I cleaned my brushes. Grossssssssssss! I usually just use shampoo to clean them.

I use & love this stuff. A small drop cleans a few small e/s brushes or one thick, powder brush easily. I've had my bottle for about 3 years & I'm only 1/2-way through.

I used to clean my brushes every other week when I wore regularly wore makeup. Now that I only wear my makeup 1x/week, I clean them 1x/month. It helps that I'm a brush junkie so I'm only using each brush once.

I have the MAC Brush Cleanser and I love it. It keeps my brushes clean and SUPER soft. I don't wear makeup much anymore, but when I did I cleaned them about once a week. I have pretty sensitive skin though.

Add me to the gross club too! When I wore make up regularly in the fall and spring I cleaned maybe once a month or so. I just used the sephora eye makeup remover since they are all eyeshadow brushes. I think I'm going to go clean mine now...

I use baby shampoo. I used to never wash my brushes, and then I read an article about all the bacteria and it freaked me out, so I started washing them every night. I'm not quite as freaked out now, but when I'm working & wearing makeup every day, I wash them once a week, but I wash my foundation brush every day or every other day.

I use baby shampoo or face wash -- I haven't had any problems so far.

Mine is actually not Brush-Out bath, it is just "Brush Out." The difference is that has a spray so that you can just spray it onto the makeup pad remover and swipe your makeup brushes over the pad to clean it. I like it this way because it allows me to clean it just before I use the brush. The brush out bath is meant for washing it in the sink I think. Which is fine but if you're looking for something that allows you to use the brushes right after, this might be easier. Also if you're lazy to clean brushes (which I am) then this is awesome. It's the same price at $14.

for natural bristle brushes, baby shampoo probably isn't the best idea. there's a common misconception that baby shampoo is gentler than normal shampoo, but it really isn't--the only thing that's different about baby shampoo is it doesn't make babies tear up if they get it in their eyes. so your best bet is to clean your natural bristle brushes with brush cleaner, MAC makes a good one, and it's not too expensive either. I just pour a little in a small dish and swirl the brushes around in it and then rinse. oh and I clean my natural bristle brushes after using them probably three or four times.

as for synthetic brushes (which are usually what foundation brushes are), they're much hardier and can be cleaned with just about anything. I clean mine with hand soap, I just squeeze a little on the brush, swirl it around on my palm under running water until the water streaming from the brush runs clear. i clean my foundation brush after every time i apply foundation.

oh and to dry, i just pat them all with a towel and lay flat on the counter to dry.

Baby shampoo is fine as a brush cleanser. My line sells a brush cleanser, but we also use one of our facial cleansers as a shampoo if our brush cleanser is out of stock.

Brushes made from real hair only need to be washed every 3 to 5 months, whereas synthetic brushes i.e. concealer, foundation, eye liner need to be washed every day.

Mine are all non-natural bristles, as far as I know. I clean them once a week with liquid hand soap (it's always right by the sink) and have never had any problems with the bristles or anything. FWIW
