Too Much?

Hi guys,

The husband is getting his promotion to Lt. Cdr. on August 1, and I am trying to find an outfit for the event.  Every other wife I have talked to is going to be wearing a sundress, so I do NOT want to wear a sundress.  I was thinking something along the lines of this:

(in the black)

with gauchos similar to these:

and some black boots.

Is it too much for a daytime event?

Does anyone have any other suggestions for tops and/or outfits I can wear?  You guys have such great and creative ideas.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I just don't want to look like everybody else who will be there!

I think if you get the pink color it would be great for a daytime event. Black might look depressing during a happy time, plus it's during the day so you want to be bright!

I think pink would be better too.  I like the idea of that with the brown gauchos or maybe a white skirt/bottom, or printed skirt, and then cute sandals- I wouldn't wear boots to a daytime event in august.  I went to kenneth cole and they had soooo many cute shoes for so cheap, for example:

$40 from $120

$50 from $160

I agree that I think pink would better, too. And boots are too wintery, imo, for a daytime event in the summer (wouldn't it be too hot anyway? I can barely stand to wear flip-flops right now, it's so damn hot!).  I think strappy sandals would be a better choice.

it's been actually kind of cold here lately, and I know we will be in a cold room.

And you guys think the pink and brown would be okay together?

I do like the sandal idea.  What about a wedge or espadrille?

Thanks!

OF COURSE!! It's the best. It's my favorite combination.  If you want to spice it up a bit, you could add a little bit of aqua (I'm also obsessed with aqua):

And wedges or espadrilles would look cute!

I was waiting for y'all's opinion on the top, and then girlshop updated their site, and the top is now 50% off!

Love the top - very dramatic - but I would so not wear boots with a sleeveless top. I'd go for a wedge with the gauchos.

Love that outfit, especially with these shoes that were posted:
