Well it's been awhile since I've read (not a big reader to begin with) but I just loved Jemima J and The Nanny Diaries. I couldn't get into the Shopaholic series. Anyways I have Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner(?) laying around so I should pick it up soon.

"Burning the Map" by Laura Caldwell is excellent. I also enjoyed Lucia Lucia by Adriana Trigiani.

haha, the only chick lit i've read is Bridget Jones and I lovved it, the only problem is that if you've seen the movie and then read the book, its impossible not to picture Renee Zelleweger, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant- the gang.  I like teeny bopper books like the Summer series by Katherine Applegate- I reread these sometimes because I loved them in tenth grade.  And Trading up- my marketing teacher mentioned it, I thought it was a business book about upgrading your material possesions?  I didn't realize it was chick lit.

Just an fyi - I tried to read Trading Up last year and couldn't even get through it, it's boring and the lead character is just awful.  Don't waste your time w/this one!

Also, Sophie Kinsella - author of the shopaholic series has some other books out - one's called Can you Keep a Secret.  Another book I read recently that was pretty good was Citizen Girl.

I just read English as a Second Language and loved it.... I really related to the main character a lot (not a good thing, though!)

Right now, I'm reading 'Going Topless' and it's taking me forever to get through it b/c I've got a million other things going on, between freelance writing and design and the jewelry business. I don't think I ever sleep. I need a vacation just so I can lay around by the ocean or pool and read chicklit!

I actually read the whole thing and hated it.  The main character is completely unredeemable.  Also, I heard Kinsella has a new book coming out--I hope so!

Can you keep a secret by Sophie Kinsella was great. If you like Bridget Jones' Diary, you'll like Can You Keep a Secret. I read it in one afternoon on the beach!

I love to read the book after watching a movie or before I watch it so I can picture the characters with the actor/actress that plays them.  It makes it more real for me.  I think the funniest thing though is when I read Bridget Jones is to remind myself that Mark does not equal Colin Firth because in the books she has such a crush on Colin Firth!

Oh Sophie Kinsella's new book came out today - The Undomesticated Goddess.  I had a couple of excerpts in my email from the book and it sounds cute.  Different than the other 2 but cute.

Thanks LSU!  But my posting this was kind of a joke - jacL and I are friends, so I'm actually going to borrow them from her.  But thanks for thinking of me

Great suggestions I will definitely check some out. I loved the shopaholic series, and I think Devil wears Prada with be my next book. As for Candace Bushnell, I was not a fan of Sex in the City or Four Non-Blondes. I am sure trading up is just as bad. I was so disappointed since I loved the show, but we owe that to Michael Patrick King. (hehe I love him, I listen to his commentaries on the dvd extras)
