Opinions on this necklace (I made it)
Permalink Closed

Okay, this is for my Trend Forecasting & Product Development class. It's representative of a line that I developed for the class and now I have to finish up my business and marketing plan/presentation. I'd love opinions from the fashion crowd since I can still include them in my presentation.

It's made of 75% upcycled and/or vintage materials and the focus of the line is just that- working with found objects to create somthing new. Custom design work would also be heavily emphasized (that old ugly bridesmaids dress stuffed in the back of your closet? Turn it into a cool piece of jewelry!).

TIA for your opinions!

Kenzie, that is beautiful! You are so talented! I love the victorian antiquey feel while reflecting the trend of layers and off-set items. The fact that it is upcycled and vintage is awesome. i'm loving the mixed textures too, the fabric totally softens it.

Good work! And, good luck with your final project!

Thanks! It's one of several final projects. I'm going nuts right now! But it will all be over in about a week and a half. For the semester anyway. Then it's on to developing and presenting my thesis project propsal. Oy.

Love the concept and execution of it. You could also use the idea of preserving memories by making jewelery from underused objects (an example could be preserving a grandmother's favorite blouse by creating jewelery from it?)

Oh, I like that! Good idea. I definitely don't want to limit myself to bridesmaids dresses. The fabric can be from anywhere. And obviously, the vintage jewelry can be from any source (like a piece from grandma's jewelry box). I actually named the jewelry line Elliot & Jean (the middle names of my maternal grandparents), so the angle you mentioned, Boots, fits that perfectly!

PS- I actually plan to launch this line sometime in the future (hopefully near, but we'll see).

Beautiful - and I LOVE the idea of creating it with something sentimental but underused.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate the opinions. Keep 'em coming.

Side note: One of my classmates wants to buy it. And she's serious. I actually have just enough supplies to make one more (and keep this one for myself), so I told her I could do that for her. Maybe I should just go ahead and open my new Etsy shop a little earlier than I planned to.

That is beautiful! I love it! I love that it's a one-of-a-kind piece and each piece would have its own story. It's also a great conversation starter and a way to incorporate a special item (grandma's blouse, wedding dress, etc) into something that you could wear more often.
