Ah, i have two magnolia cookbooks. I think we are going to manhattan in the fall so this will definitely be a stop.

I always tell my husband that i'm going to volunteer my services there when i win the lottery. That would be a dream come true.

I second the cupcakes. Anything with buttercream oozing from it has to be scrumptuous!!!

the cupcakes are sooo good.  but a word of warning.  too much sugar makes me kinda sick (i promise i'm not weird, i eat EVERYTHING), like for instance, jellybeans.  so when i ate a whole cupcake on a really hot day, i felt kinda sick.  and i was disappointed with my experience there.  the next time i went i made sure that i split it (i know i'm weak) and drank a TON of water with it.  it was SOOOOO good.  not to mention that i did order a second one to take home.

I went on a nice breezy night at around midnight and I waited in line with my bf, it was so cute!  We ate our cupcakes on the bench.  I reccommend not forcing yourself to finish one either unless you are really hungry.  I've made them myself too, imo, the cupcake by itself isn't all that great (tastes sort of like cornbread to me) but with the icing, WOW.

aside from the cupcakes, definitely get a couple of cookies. ugh, i used to work 100 feet from this place. did not do good for my waist line!

banana pudding! it's so creamy and rich.
flourless chocolate cake.
buttermilk chocolate cake.
i don't like this but my coworkers did: german chocolate cake.

i definitely prefer a slice of cake when i can have it.

also can i recommend billy's bakery. billy used to work at magnolia for years, and billy's bakery is a no apologies magnolia rip-off. but i prefer it. their icing isn't as sweet. there are never lines. there's actually seating... and the real genius is that they actually serve you the cupcakes.

i don't understand how a place that sells $30,000 of cupcakes in a week makes you serve yourself. it's insane. people wait on line forever.. standing elbow to elbow in this tight corner and then there are like 8 people behind the counter asking if they can get you anything. so ridiculous, especially since most people just grab a cupcake and don't get the stuff behind the counter!

Magnolia's is great, but I really recommend Mary's Off Jane. I don't know exactly where its located, somewhere in greenwich village, and it's off of Jane St., but their desserts are SO good! It's not crowded like Magnolia's, and you get to sit down there on mismatched furniture from the 50's! lol.

It's cute, you should check it out.

Also, Veniero's (somwhere downtown, like 3 ave, maybe 7th st..?) has THE BEST canoli's I've ever had. I swear, they must put drugs in it, because I'm addicted! lol.

i like magnolia cupcakes, but i agree with the others that they can be kind of overkill. fortunately i've never had to wait on line to get one, but if i had to, i probably wouldn't. however i do really, really like their mini cheesecakes. they are yummy and come in fun flavors like which chocolate. if you're a cheesecake fan, you should check them out.

Mary's Off Jane is right of Jane Street where 8th Ave becomes Bleecker (or is it vice versa?). It's super close to Magnolia so you could check them both out!

I've tried some stuff at Mary's Off Jane and found it so-so. I feel weird about how they were really pushing their Cuban menu last summer. I mean I love Cuban food but it just seemed off.

I know you go to Magnolia for cupcakes, but they're not THE GREATEST. I LIVE for the banana pudding w/nilla wafers. Honestly, one of the best edible things on earth. My dermatologist is litterally around the corner and I find excuses to go there....is that weird? kinda?

Also try Polka Dot Cafe/bakery...on Bleeker I think...FOUND IT:
312 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10014
    phone: 212 645 0500   fax: 212 645 1286

Also, just found out that Crumbs, another cupcakerie in NYC has icing i don't like, BUT if you put them in the fridge (if you can wait to eat them) the icing magically turns good. i don't know how, i don't know why....I could talk about cupcakes ALL DAY!

anyone seen: http://cupcakestakethecake.blogspot.com/ some GREAT recipies and wedding cake ideas....if anyone is looking around....
