Ever been to these stores? Do you recommend me going or not...I have a certain amount of time there, so I would love some advice on them. Thanks

-Filene's Basement (I think there are 2 or three..which one is the best)

-Gabays (225 1st ave (e.village) near 13th st)

-LoftWorks (100 Lafayette st) (tribeca) near walker st.

filene's is OK.
i love gabay's. i used to live around the corner and went in every couple of weeks. the items are authentic and the prices are very good. they always have nice purses and shoes.
loftworks -- i don't like it. it seems like a marshalls or tj maxx. the first time i went i thought i was in the wrong store and left.

I don't really like Filene's Basement very much. I usually just buy things like tights and underwear there. The bigger one is on 14th street at Union Square in the same building as a DSW. The other one is on 6th avenue in the same building as a TJ Maxx (the selection there is usually even worse than Filene's). It is also right near Loehmann's which is one discount store that you should definitely check it. It has much much more designer stuff than Filene's. I've gotten so many amazing deals there, especially on shoes.

I've only been to Loftworks once or twice and I didn't really like it. So unless you're going to be in the area you can safely skip it.

Gabay's is nice because it's really small. I've never liked the clothing selection much but the shoes and bags are great.

I would say you should definitely go to Loehmann's and Century 21. Of the smaller discount stores Gabay's is pretty good and I really like Find Outlet which has a store in Chelsea and another in Soho/Nolita (http://www.findoutlet.com/).

i agree with cc & dot. the only filene's basement worth going to is in boston, i wouldn't make it a point to go to either of them. loehmann's & century 21 are great. i can almost always find stuff there. gabay's is cool, i've only been there once, but they had a great selection, lots of manolo's. find outlet is one of my fav. stores. it's very boutiquey but they have great prices, and a really well edited selection of stuff. i was in the one near my house and they had tons of la rok and lauren moffat stuff for relatively cheap.

Thanks so much for the advice! I'm originally from NY, I just haven't been into the city to shop in a looong time. I definitely want to check out Find Outlet now, and I think that I will pop into Gabays too, it seems like there may be good deals there.

dot- I'm coming in the middle of August...when is the sale? That would be great if i was there for it.

Thanks again for the responses.

I *think* you may make the tail end of the crazy 80% off Henri Bendel sale too...it might be worth checking out and maybe some of the NYC girls can verify it (I missed it by ONE WEEK last year and I think I was ready to throw myself into the East River. )
