We have a new Dollar General store, and yesterday was my first day inside.  This is the best dollar store I have ever been too!  They had loads of good stuff!  I'm usually skeptical about buying foods, but their signs did say guaranteed fresh.  So I got a bag of double bubble (my fav gum), and a bag of tootsie rolls.  They were more fresh then what I get in the grocery store!  The gum was so soft, usually it is not!  Same with the tootsie rolls!  And they had small packages of Hamburger Helper!  I have always wished this, since I only cook for me and the bf, now there won't be waste from larger packages!  They also had cans of crabmeat!  Got 4 of those.  I love crab.  Plus those Bumble chicken salad with crackers pack.  I also picked up koshoer dill spears, a dictionary, nice soft tie towel for the fridge, rubber cake stamp (for my card making, scrapbooking), a splatter screen, and Red Vines.  I think that was it for me.  The bf and I left with 3 full bags of usuable stuff for about $35!

I haven't been to one of these kind of stores in years- is everything still $1?

LOL I love the Dollar General store, and the Family Dollar store, you really CAN find some great things in there, some even better than at the grocery store. Not everything is a dollar in there, but I still think it's a GREAT store.

I love Dollar Tree for deals.  Everything in Dollar Tree is $1 or less.  I've been stocking up on packing materials there thanks to some pointers on here.  I also find their food "safe" and will probably be shopping for cleaning supplies there when I move.

Dollar general can be good too but it just bugs me that stuff there is more than $1!!

I like Dollar Tree, too, for cleaning supplies and soap and things like that.  I don't usually buy food there, though.

hmm...I didn't notice anything more than $1.  They did have some name brand cleaner- Downy, but in Spanish!  One thing I would not buy from a dollar store is toiletries, they don't smell good when they are cheap.  Two things I saw was funny, ovulation test and pregnancy test!  I wonder how accurate those would be...
