I think it depends on what kind of church. I have been to church services where people have on shorts, and churches where they have on suits and hats. What do others at your church wear?

I would say church is the one place you shouldn't wear jeans. You could probably wear a nice pant, but not jeans. Personally I would wear a skirt or a dress to church.
I wear jeans to church every week...unless it's too hot and I'm wearing a simple skirt and sandals. Or shorts. I've never understood why church, the building, should have different "rules" of dress than anywhere else I go...it's just one of the unlimited number of places I can be where I can interact with God. God can see into your heart...which is what He cares about. He couldn't care less about how dressed up you are.
I agree w/ June that in the big scheme of things, I doubt God really cares if you wear jeans or nice pants, but I think a lot has to do with respect and tradition as well. I think a lot of it also depends on where you live. For example, here in the South, people get DRESSED to go to church, but where I grew up in California, shorts and flip flops were not unusual. But, I always play it safe and wear a cute skirt or nice pants.

i third this. it really depends on the church. imo proper form would be to wear something over than jeans, but i also routinely wear nice denim skirts to church. ultimately it doesn't matter and i personally would not want to go to a chruch where they look down on you b/c you're wearing jeans.
I wear jeans to church a lot. At my church, it's totally ok to wear jeans, probably because I live in SoCal and that reflects the more casual LA vibe. I've even see people wear their warm ups to church, and no one even gives it a second thought.
i feel compelled to answer since i was the "someone" who said that i would not personally wear jeans to a christening.
as i mentioned in that post, i don't regularly attend church, so i don't know the regular sunday dress code and as many of the girls have mentioned it IS perfectly acceptable in their church. i guess i just wanted to add out that IMO, a christening is a little bit bigger of an event. it's a ceremony and most likely a post-ceremony lunch or reception that is a very meaningful event for the family of the baby in which case i think jeans are a little too casual.
sorry for the tangent, i know that wasn't the exact topic of this particular post.
Where I went to church, peoples jaws would drop if they saw you in anything less than a dress/skirt. I had worn a denim skirt though. No matter what church it was, I would make sure I was dressed nice, never any jeans unless it was a midweek activity.
I think this is something that really varies from religion to religion and from church to church. I like the tradition of wearing one's "best Sunday dress" especially for holidays and special occasions but I also think in most churches it's fine to wear jeans.
Personally, I'm more interested in maintaining the general standards of decency/respectful dress that many churches have - i.e. no shorts or short skirts, no tank tops, etc.
