I read an article on this somewhere, and they suggested treating them like black pants, you can pretty much wear them with everything. I would suggest something bright colored, maybe a prett henley sweater with a couple of tanks layered underneath, possibly lacy camis to offset the preppiness of the khakis? Thats what I would probably wear!
i like khakis but i hate how "work uniform" it can look...
but i wear mines with just plain, fitted polo shirts with a kick ass bag. if im not wearing polo shirts, i'd wear a white oxford shirt. i know it can look workish but with a killer bag, it can look very fashionable.
I wore mine the other night w/ a turquoise lace cami under a plain white beater. It was cute and I got a lot of compliments on the outfit. I do think it's pretty easy to feel dowdy in khakis, though.
my khakis all have straight wide-ish legs- lately ive been wearing them with my linen juicy couture smocked dress with a shunken cotton cardigan on top(not a shrug, a regular one that fits small). i suppose the look isn't for everyone, but i like to play with proportion. i discovered just last week that it also looks cute with the cardigan closed as well, buttoned from the very top button down until the second to last button. (leave last button undone, or even the last 2 buttons)
hth- the outfit is reaaaally comfy, i wear it to feel cute on my "fat/bloated" days
