Hello from Austin, Texas
Permalink Closed

Hi folks,

I'm a friend of D's, and will be assisting her in reference to http://stylethread.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=44784&p=3&topicID=34418915

Thought I might introduce myself.

So, I'm a software developer out here in Texas, I think I have some fashion sense in that I'm picky about what I like to wear, and am conscious about how I look when I go out.

Problem for me is, I never seem to buy the right clothes. Like pants. I bought some nice slacks from Cabellas once, for some reason I thought they looked fine when I tried them on... but then I noticed the pockets were sticking out - like ears...and well, that's enough to make me not like a good pair of pants.

I should try clothes on before I buy them, but I usually don't - and then when it ends up bad, cause I rarely go back to the store to return them. Just stuck with them.

Anyways, I'm mostly a tech guy, developer, and love to help troubleshoot problems people may have. So, if you have any computer problems, I'll be glad to help out.

Thanks for the welcome D, and the tip.

Something else about me is that I don't like short sleeve shirts of any kind. I can only ever wear long sleeve shirts, no matter what the weather is.

I think I do pretty good with shirts, but pants I'm no good at.

I think D is right about the pants - the first step is looking somewhere other than Cabela's wink.gif!

Welcome, and thanks for all the help, recent and yet to come smile.gif.

Welcome ATX and thanks for all of the work you have been doing!

It is a good thing you are in Austin since you do not like short sleeves. I live in Houston and we would have a stroke in the summer wearing long sleeves! sun.gif

Hi ATX,
I was thinking of suggesting having a tailor sew your pockets shut (to keep them from sticking out), but that would look weird for a guy. My husband likes the pants from Banana and J Crew, if you're looking for something easy and off-the-rack. Also, short-sleeve dress shirts are no  Don't be a Dwight. You can just as easily roll up the sleeves of your long-sleeved shirts, or maybe even wear nice polos?

Welcome!

Welcome!

My brothers do the exact same thing with buying pants. They just grab a pair off the rack and check out. Drives me nuts! My best advice is to take 5 minutes and try them on in the store. It will save you money and time in the long run and that's worth 5 minutes right?

Hey, thanks everyone for the advice :)

Interesting that it seems I got approval on my fondness of long sleeve shirts. And yeah, I just roll them up when its too hot.

For some reason, I just don't like short sleeves, not even t-shirts.

I'll do better with the next set of pants I buy, in so far as trying them on first.

I don't mind short sleeves on T-shirts but short sleeves on men's button-ups look odd to me (love rolled up sleeves though). I think there's a reason The Office's wardrobe department always puts short sleeves on Dwight Schrute biggrin

Are you looking for casual pants or dress pants? My husband tends to have luck with the Van Hussen outlet store for shirts and pants. I've never noticed the pockets sticking out. I am about to do laundry so I'll see what other brands he wears to work. He is anti-khaki pants so I can't help you there. He lives in cargo shorts. Sigh.
